two piece house cue
I cut a house cue in half - installed a better shaft,(15" pro taper)
with ivory ferrule and sniper tip.
joint is 5/16-18 pin into brass insert in shaft
epoxyed together.

result......59" one piece house cue that hits great.

problem....... the pin in the brass insert rattles....

How do I get the cue apart with damaging shaft or butt???

What is the best expoy to seal the cue together so the
pin does not come loose and rattle????

any solutions????

West 205 is supposed to be 5 min.too. But guess what it don't get hard for about 6 hours. then it aint commin apart.

You shouldn't have used a pin & insert. Just a pc. of 3" or 4" x 3/8" threaded rod epoxied into both holes and on the faces of the wood. Cue & case sells Player/Lucasi house cues that are done like that and they have the pro-taper. Vary the length of the thrd.rod for more or less forward weighting.

Oh, I forgot, you want a solution.

Chuck-up the cue with the 'joint' near the chuck (butt in the spindle-shaft out) and use a thin-blade parting tool `til you come to the pin. the cue should unscrew at that point. You'll only lose slightly more than the thickness of the blade in overall cue length. Again, if the cue is not meant to be broken down, consider the 4" thrd. rod.

lessons to learn from

never use brass insert in the shaft.
never use loctite 454 as joint sealer.

I will try the thin-blade parting tool to get it apart.

I could cut the shaft off just above the insert-
install the shaft on another house cue butt cut alittle longer.

thank for the input!!!

Cut the shaft's face with parting too, expose the insert , get solder and heat up the insert, spin them apart.
