what methods do you guys use for repairing screw holes?
I run into those a lot. I take the plate off, plug the hole with a flush cut 1/4" dowel glued in there. Seems like most of the figure 8 rails have stripped screws for the plates.
A quick easy trick I use is to break off a piece or two of toothpick and add a few drops of super glue. Also works well for slate screw holes that are too big to hold the screw tight.
It is possible I'll need to employ at least JZ's toothpick trick, though I'm not certain any of my figure 8 plate screwholes are stripped. During disassembly of my Anniversary, I had to tighten about 75% of those screws, but I don't recall any being stripped. I might be lucky.
On a relative note, I've wondered if it would make sense to fill the screwholes with water and allow the threads inside to swell out a little... that is, if a mechanic had the time to wait it out. However, I don't know if the grain direction has a direct impact on how much wood will swell when wet.

Donny, can you spade drill those two slots, then epoxy up with some screw to back them 1 3/8 rosewood discs ?
Then you just sand level the two 1 3/8 discs .
I can make the discs to the thickness you want too.
