Replacing rails on a Valley

This question probally was asked before but here goes. I am looking to replace the rails on my 7 ft valley table I was looking on ebay and I came across two suppliers one was called ridgeback and the other was penguin. Which one would you guys recommend.

Rails

I have no experience with Penguin rails, but I own 4 tables with Ridgeback rails and they would be excellent replacement rails for your Valley.

I have used both brands of rails. Both make a good product.

I do like some of the features of the Ridgebacks, like the ... wait for it... ridge in the back and the hardware they use. I do think I prefer the play of the Ridgebacks a bit too, although that's just personal preference.

Again, both companies make a quality product.

Rails

I installed Ridgback on my old Valley, made it play like a new table .
Good Luck to ya . Robert:thumbup:

Penguins are top notch rail

If you like American Made products and dont mind paying a premium penguin makes an exceptional product. They use durable stress tested wood and a saw tooth, deep pat'd Tee nut. Uncovered they run about $250.00 with brand new rubber. I also have an import version that runs &175.00 No tax(outside of FL) & free shipping. The only difference is the Tee nuts on my imports are not as deep as the penguin ones, but they are set in place with a screw. Id watch out for ebay you will probably getting a used product which may not be any better than what you are trying to replace. If you want to give the imports a shot call me 813-229-2778

rails

Fred from penguin posts here from time to time and also does karry from ridgeback, I personally like the ridgeback rails...I suggest you call karry and talk with him, he designed his rails a bit differently than anyone in the replacement rail industry...he looks for better ways to improve the play of his rails...and I think he has figured it out, its all in the rail blocks'
You can't go wrong with ridgebacks, money well spent' I believe the rails make the table play better than a new bar table..

hmmm....American Made?? Where did you think the Ridgeback rails were built...China? They're as American as they get, built in Las Cruces, NM for that matter. I designed the rails with Kerry...as I have a major history in the bar table business in the Pacific Northwest. I got tired of buying junk from everyone else, so I decided to build my own. That's why I teamed up with Kerry, so he could build the rails for sale as I don't have the time. Trust me, Kerry DOES build the best Valley rails on the market...bar none!

I had never heard used or heard of ridge-back so i didnt want to throw my two cents in on them. Im sure they are great. Ive had a pretty long relationship with penguin they are good people over there. They have a quick turnaround and are willing work outside the box. When a bar owns their own table they dont mind coming out of pocket every 10 years to get a new set of rubber & wood. Its the same with the Parks & Rec Departments we work with.

If you have any experience with vendors they are notoriously cheap, in that industry you have to be. The vendors i deal with love the import rails, i have them priced incredibly low and i do trade ins on some of the the old rails. Im getting my second run of these things in soon and worked out a couple of issues that i was dealing on the first run. Even with the issues we were having the vendors loved em.

Check out the Ridgebackrails.com web site, and do yourself a favor and call Kerry about pricing...you might just be suprised:cool:

I played on several valleys with the ridgebacks and love them. You cant even compare them to a new table. They play true, dont take the slop and remind me a little of my diamond.

Kerry, from Ridge Back makes the best replacement rail I've ever used. They are priced very fairly, fit great, and built to last. I would recommend them highly.

When I had my Global bar-box redone by Donny of SD Billiards, I wanted the best cloth and the best rails. Donny recommended the Ridgeback rails and that's the way we went. When the rails arrived I was very impressed with the workmanship. With the new Simonis 860HR cloth and Ridgeback rails my table plays great. Do a search on Ridgeback rais on this Forum and you'll see many threads on how good these rails are. By the way, Donny of SD BIlliards is probably the best table mechanic in Southern California. Good luck with your table.
