Replacing the cushions

It's getting close to time to recover my Brunswick table, but the bigger issue seems to be the cushions. They are hard as a rock. The table is about 12 years old, and I was wondering if this is the result of age and use, or does Brunswick just use cheap rubber? Also, any insight as to how much cost replacing the cushions will add, would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Depends on the type of Brunswick table. Some come with SuperSpeed which are nice, others come with crappy ones...

I bought my Brunswick in 1975. Just had it recovered and the rubber is still good.

I know that doesn't help your situation. There may be other issues involved.

I hear that Artemis, Champion, or Diamond are good replacements. Get a mechanic that is associated/trained by Glen take their advice and have them replace the rails. If you are going to replace the rails it would be good time to tighten up the pockets.

A good trick is to keep it covered to limit the amount of sun light that gets on it. Most products that are pertrolem based break down from sun light and uv rays.

A fun test is to take left over rubber put it on a roof for a year then come back and see which ones like sun light.

Thanks, guys.

I keep the table covered whenever it's not in use. Looks like it will take a little work to get this one back up to speed. Or maybe I'll just get rid of it and start looking for a nice Diamond. :D

What model of brunswick do you have now? You get a hold of shane and he will have your table playing great, save you some money and have him bring your table up to diamond specs and you will be very pleased,
Give shane a call and give him a time line of when you might be ready and he will pencil you in so you won't have to wait when the time comes that your ready, he is a busy guy'

It's one of their 8 foot "furniture style" tables, called the Avalon (yeah, I know....live and learn. LOL). I bought it new, and it's never been abused, except where some jackass hit one of the rails with a cue stick after missing a shot. I'll Give Shane a call, and try to set something up. Thanks.

I agree with you, I have a Brunswick Anniversary which is my favorite table in my pool room, that I bought around three years ago. The table was made in 1954 and it is completely original down to the Rubber. The rubber on the table is the old Super Speed and it has the Brunswick logo stamped on the rubber with the little man that matches the tables name plate.

This rubber is the best I have ever seen, the rubber is 56 years old and it is better than any rubber on any table I have ever hit a ball on. I mean I can get five and half rails from end to end by rolling a ball by hand up and down the table. I wonder why they ever stopped making it, well maybe it was too good, I suppose it is possible that they were not making any money off replacement rubber.

Merry Christmas

Don't you know, Brunswick has put a lot of research into making the SuperSpeed cushions better over the last 60 odd years...

Of course, better is subjective... They now have a much better profit margin for Brunswick than they did 60 years ago :)
