Replacing weight bolt with brass threaded rod

I have a 6" Stainless weight bolt in my Predator Sneaky .. it weighs 2.3 ounces. I have decided to replace it with 9" of like threaded brass rod at 3.7 ounces.

I cut a slot in the end of the rod so I can set it with a flat head screw driver.

After screwing it in about 2 or 3 inches I noticed more resistance - it was threading no problem - but the brass is much rougher than the well polished stainless bolt it was replacing.

So, I backed it out. I am not sure how far taped the butt is either - so I want to know for certain when and if I bottom out.

Any advice on how to polish the brass rod? Is there some kind of lube to use on the rod that would help?

Friday nights are not what they once were, what can I say?

I would try buffing the brass with a fine wire brush on a drill.

As for what to lube you rod with. To make Friday nights more exciting. Maybe KY.

Well I would start by taking all of the weight bolts out. Make sure isn't any left by shining a light down in there. Once you've determined that it's completely empty, straighten out a coat hanger and insert it till it bottoms out then measure that against the bolt.

I have installed the brass rod. Just for the record the 6" brass rod - six inches was all I was able to add without re-boring and tapping - weighed 2.5 ounces compared to the 2.3 ounce weight of the stainless bolt.

So, brass is heavier but not by much. l was not able to get the desired results but I learned - if you want to significantly increase the weight of a butt you need a bigger bolt, a heavier material is not the answer.

If the weight bolt puts enough outward pressure it will break the butt.
I think your in over your head and need to take it to a cue repair person before you really screw up the cue.

I have to wonder if there is 9 inches of thread in the butt handle or not.
And I have to wonder if your new weight bolt has the same threads.

And not to be offensive but if you were on this end I have to wonder if you have the skill level needed .
Straight up, wood is allot softer then brass, you have new brass threaded rod and its fitting to tight and you want to wire brush the brass rod.?

What,s wrong with running a tap down the hole so you know how deep the hole is and how far the threads go.
Only problem is you need a XX long specialty tap.
That's why I said I think you are in over your head and should send it to a cue repair person who has the tools or the know how to do the job...

The "bigger bolt" can be either a longer one or a thicker one (or both longer and thicker). For your cue, either way requires some drilling and tapping.

Yes .. now I need professional help. I have to have this butt bored and tapped - perhaps 1/2 16 that goes 8 1/2 inches into the butt.

Are you in Nevada, Mike? I see NV after your handle...
