This is the youtube of Foldes surrounding 1-ball twice (deliberately fouling to do so) in an attempt to get his opponent on 3 fouls. The shooter is left with only one option - jump over the surrounding balls and LAND on the 1-ball which he proceeds to do. Replays show it was a legal hit and Foldes proceeds to run out the table.

These scenarios are rare but they do come up from time to time. It's important to recognize them as great opportunities to win and in turn, sticky situations to avoid.

Beginner and intermediate players eventually learn to tie up balls in an effort to deter a run out. When this is the objective of the shooter while fouling, it's important to be careful when tying up the lowest ball on the table. You may leave yourself vulnerable to having ball-in-hand and nowhere to place the cueball.
 
I watched a match between Parica and Alex in Chelmsford at Country Club USA where Parica did the exact same thing. It was during a Joss tour event. In this case Jose got Alex with th 3 fouls.
