Can anyone recommend how to have a piece of history documented as being authentic. I have this cain which I believe belonged to Willie Hoppe. The only history I know is that it was given to my dad in the late 70s from a family friend who found it at an estate sale in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. It is intricately carved in a reptile theme and signed Willie Hoppe 1924. Any help is appreciated. Here are a some pics I just took.

It is a really nice piece, but I don't think it was owned by Willie Hoppe.
Maybe it's a Brunswick Willie Hoppe Pro signature cane
The signature on the cane and cue are the same, what year did they start to produce the Willie Hoppe Brunswick cue?

its a mystery to me. I just wish I could find out the story it holds. If it was his he would have only been 37 yrs old and why would he need a cain at 37, injury? No, I'm not speculating, I have no clue, in fact another thing that seems weird is that it measures 34" long which seems short for a man of his height.

Id rather want his cue stick

is there a billiard museum?

put all the extra pool stuff in a museum or virtual museum.

Willie Hoppe was in famously good shape most of his life. He exercised regularly and did not smoke or drink. Here's a good video of him in his old age:

And from AZB's own forum, a reprint of a 1940s newspaper article describing Hoppe's good health and exercise regimen:

I haven't read anything about his using a cane. Perhaps Hoppe knew the maker of the cane, or its original owner, and signed it as a novelty item.

That's a thought too. The spot where it's signed looks like a small flat area meant for a signature.

Was Dianna Hoppe a relative I remember seeing her at billiard events? She had cool billiard swag. Thats something I would want to do have a table at a billiard event one day.

The OP said it was a cain.
You think there was an abel model?
There you go, it's biblical
I bet Moses could have used a cane like that, way better than the cane I've seen him use while wondering around the desert.
After forty years in the desert that cane would come in handy.

Canes, or walking sticks were in style years ago as part of a gentleman’s attire....
...and Willie Hoppe was certainly a gentleman.
I feel this cane is invaluable in the billiard world, whether it was Hoppe’s personal cane or not.
Those canes were not just for the old and feeble...often they were a valuable defence.

Imagine taking a pool ball attached to the end of a 3' stick to the head. Lights out.
