Rescue Needed for mu Lucasi Hybrid Shaft

An acquaintance of mine who has a lathe volunteered to shape the tip on the shaft of my Lucasi Hybrid cue. He did a great job of it, but either intentionally or unintentionally he wore the smooth finish totally off the vast majority of the shaft.

I find playing with it now to be completely intolerable and I feel like just throwing the shaft out (luckily I have a 2nd shaf).

Is there anything I can do to restore the the smooth finish? This is one of Lucasi's spliced & bonded shafts.

THANX! -Z-

Have someone smooth, reseal and burnish your shaft. Pay shipping and send it to me, I'll make it like oiled glass, no charge. Brian.

Hmm..Finish, you say? Was it like a laquer finish or just wax? If it was just wax, then you can apply that yourself. There are several waxes you can use.

Here's a helpful thread:

This is probably your best bet, up there.
I'd offer also, but you really can't beat oiled glass.
However, if you do just want to throw it away, I'd gladly pay shipping to me

Clean, paint the shaft with about 3 to 5 coats of wood hardener scotch brite pad , buff and wax .

Resin

Allot of shaft that come out of china are resin reinforced .
Main reason is they produce shafts fast compared to the normal wood working practice,
Therefor most of there shafts would warp so they resin reinforced them.

These shafts are put in a tank that if filled with wood hardener, then there is a vacuum put on the tank

This helps stabilized the wood shafts from warping and it almost looks like a clear coat done on the out side of the shafts.

Wood hardener can be bought at your local hardware store .
It is extremely thin liquid the soaks deep into the wood .
It doesn't require a lathe to apply ....and it will take about 30 minutes to fix your shaft..
