Restoring a CG1 Question.

Hey, mechanics;

I recently bought a blue CG1. I'm doing some work on a light restoration: cleaning up the blue skirts, and fiberglass underskirts/dust covers. The blue is cleaning up nicely with some Oxiclean and Magic Eraser. However, the fiberglass has a yellowed quite a bit. Is there any way to "de-yellow" the dust covers? I've tried several types of plastic restorer, plastic polish, and using the same Magic Eraser. If not, will the fiberglass hold a coat of fresh paint?

My top rails and metal parts are almost perfect. So, I'm just looking to freshen up the color.

Thanks for any help.

Josh

Josh,

I was in the same boat as you on the plastic skirts. The rest of my table just needed cleaned, but the skirts were yellow. I also could not find anything that would take the yellow out.

I ended up having the white color matched from a hidden area of a wall rack. I then sprayed my skirts with a hplv gun. Turned out nice. Although I am sure you could scrape the paint off, it adhered great and since they don't get any wear, they still look perfect.

I have the color matched white paint code in this link.
Post #14 is the white paint code - http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=393287&highlight=capsule
Post #38 shows a nice "after" picture of the painted skirts - http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=393224&highlight=capsule

I would love to get a perfect color match of the blue. How clean did your aprons get? Does the color match accurately to that of a hidden area? Where the aprons attach to the ball rack for example? Assuming it is a good example, I would pay the cost of a quart of paint from Sherwin Williams if you would have it color matched and share the code. Then you would have a free quart of touch up paint!

Also, Post pics!! nothing like an old GC!

Congrats on the new table,
Ian

Thanks, Ian, for the help and links.
Here are some pictures of my disassembled table:

I think I can get the color you're after by cleaning this section under the apron, and have the blue matched:

Let me know what you think.

I painted my table with Benjamin Moore Advance paint using Sherwin Williams Lock Blue (SW6502) and Cotton White (SW7104 color profiles. ) The plastic rail blinds I used Krylon Fusion Dover White spray paint.

Came out really nice.

I stained my GCI but I left the stringer and center of legs white. My fiberglass gulley blinds were also slightly yellowed. I just scuffed them up with Scotch Brite pads and used white spray bombs on them, they turned out good. I also did the stringer and leg centers in the same white so I do not need to match.
If you have not tried it yet try some Wesleys Bleche White on your gulley blinds. Its white wall cleaner, it cleans a lot of stuff that you wouldnt think would come clean.

I hope you don't mind me interrupting this thread to ask this quick question pertaining to a Gold Crown I.

The GC I recently bought and had set up didn't come with whatever screws or nails are necessary for securing the Ball Box Trim (Brunswick Logo) or the brushed aluminum lower ball box trim piece. Does anyone know what fasteners I need for each?

Thanks!
