The weekend started out with only 5 players showing for the $100. entry ring game. So myself and the 5 players started a $10 a man ring game, race to 10 points (1point on the 5 and 2 points on the 10). We had a blast! Within 1 hour we had 2 tables going . By 11:00pm we were starting another game with 4 new players. Once again we had match ups from cheap-cheap sets to serious money sets. There was even some 1 pocket action!;)

We had 43 Players this month including several returning Champions make their way to Clicks Waco for the March 3rd $ 50 9Ball. Top picks for this month were Steve Davenport – Austin, Huan “Bentley” Nguyen -Dallas, Roger Allen -Houston, 2 time Champion Charles Holan -Houston, Destry Ensley – San Antonio, Corey Dordek- Austin, Returning Champion Jon Rollins- Denton. Also in the field were returning Champion Mark “Sparky” Webb- Wichita Falls and returning Champion Carl Ray- Waco and 2004 BCA State Champ Gale Gladden. Definitely a challenging field!!

Coming in 7-8th were returning 2 time Champion Charles Holan- Houston and Rick Larque- San Antonio. These guys really deserve credit for playing some great pool! Great job Guys!

Our 5-6th finishers were 2004 BCA state Champ Gale Gladden- Dallas and returning runner up from February, Frank Ferrer Jr.. Gale played some great pool and absolutely still has game! We are definitely going to see more of Frank Jr. His game is really solid. When this kid’s game matures he will be a top contender (already is in Waco) in everything he enters! Very well mannered and pleasant to be around. Kudos to Frank Sr.! Raised a Good Kid.

4th place went to well know Cuemaker from Houston, Roger Allen. Roger was in rare form as he happily cruised through the field to take forth. Good shooting Roger!

3rd Place went to "much feared" player from Austin Steve Davenport. Steve played some great pool! Many picked him to Snap it off very early. Good job Steve.

Corey Dordek from Austin would start the day as a top pick by the players. He started with Mike Alvarez from Austin. Corey would win the nail Biter 7-6! Next defeating Zach Ballas from Denton 7-2, Gale Gladden from Dallas 7-0, returning runner up Frank Ferrer Jr. 7-5. Corey would now be ready to play for the “hot seat”.

Coming from the other bracket is Waco’s Own Carl Ray. Carl would start out defeating Jim Ramirez 7-1, then local Newell Bullard 7-1, next San Antonion Ruben Berrera 7-2, then local Jimmy Davis 7-6. Then he would defeat Steve Davenport from Austin 7-1. Carl Ray would then lose to Corey Dordek for the “hot seat” 7-4. Carl Ray goes to the one loss side for a re-match with Steve Davenport. Carl Ray would win 5-3 for another shot at Corey Dordek in the race to 9 Finals. This time Carl Ray would catch a gear and become the second 2 time Champion, winning 9-2!

Special Thanks to Click’s Billiards Waco, and Manager Jim Ashby, for hosting this event. Thanks to James Hanshew of Hanshew Custom Cues for providing cue repair. Thanks to Jack Compan of Mystic Cues. Jack had a booth with some great deals on players and jump and break cues. This was Jacks first month with us and everyone was really impressed with his cues! Special Thanks to Lewis Jones and Paul Blank of the Fast Eddies 9Ball tour for sponsoring our Champion with a paid entry to their next event.

1st $ 1,960.00 + paid entry to the Fast Eddies 9Ball tour in Lubbock
2nd $ 1,000.00
3rd $ 520.00
4th $ 310.00
5-6th $ 75.00/75.00
7-8th $ 50.00/50.00

Thanks for the kind words! Yes sir, Carl Ray was in gear! He won our first tournament and hasn't really done much since. We are real proud of him.

Ray.

Tournament Input....

Both these players ARE great players. We all know you can't judge a player by who they "run" with or a lot of us would be world beaters NOW. I have beaten Leroy Mathis and Robert Stuart in matches, That doesn't mean I am able to again or at all. Your opinion and thoughts are important to me and I will definetely take them into consideration.

Thanks

Level of Play

I just think there are going to be more and more players like these guys show up and it's going to run off the lower level players. I've personally seen it in tournaments I've been involved in the past.

This tournament WILL be a major challenge for "lower level" players. There are some that think because of the "qualification" , to be able to play in the Waco event, it will be easy. Not the case. We are steadily drawing the top of the mid-level players. This month was packed with high mid-level players. Tough one to call! True, some may want to play low level players only. There are many area weekly tournaments that will provide that and I support those tournaments whole heartedly.

Nice turn out Ray. Sorry to hear about the small turnout in the ring game. But what a field in the tourney. Most of the picks have a winning record versus me, and several I have tried to spot(last two) and drew back a nub. So I haven't seen a formal decsion made on whether I should be allowed to play. I do not believe I play better than atleast 6-8 players the have been playing if not a hand few more. I am just asking for a chance to play.

the donkey has spoken

if i were in the council....i would let the donkey play...let him play, let him play, let him play......awe hell forget the donkey!!!!:D
