Chris's Billiards is hosting a $1000 Added tournament this weekend. A total of 53 players showed up today. A total of 8 players are returning on Sunday to finish off the event. Local favorite, Marco Marquez, was in attendance and was on fire. He will return on the winner's side to play Pons Cruz. Gil Hernandez will be playing Paul Navarette also on the winner's side. All four of these men are regualrs at Chris's. On the one loss side are Scott Cohen vs John Demet and Neal Jacobs vs Henry Brodt.

A quarter of the field will be paid. The 9-12 spots already have already been determined. The spots were filled by: Chuck Ferrera, Ed Flatt, Tom McCluskey, and Tony Gong.

A bunch of matches went hill-hill in this race to 7, alternate breaks, double elimination 9 ball tournament. One of the most exciting matches was played between Arturo Zulueta and Tom McCluskey. Arturo was keeping a tight match and and winning 5-3. Tom made an outstanding jump shot to combo the 2 ball in while mainting shape. Tom had the scored tied at 5-5, but then pulled ahead by one game. Arturo got back to the table when Tom was up 6-5 and played a great safety on the 7 ball. Tom once again pulled out his jump cue to nail the 7 ball in the corner and got back down table with perfect shape on the 8. Tom won 7-5.

Matches will continue on Sunday at noon.

Good luck to the guys still left.

Thanks to everyone who played in this event. Some of the big guns were: Willie Munson, Ike Runnels, Matt Daiber, Augie Vandenbosch, Bob Scianna, Manuel Chau, Larry Schwartz, and one up and coming player, Alex Larsen-Walker.

First place is a total of $1350
Second place is $900 total
Third is $550 total

Thanks for this update about the tourney. Looking at the names of some of the players, I am thinking this is the Chris' Billiards that is located in Chicago, Illinois.

That is a very good turnout, 53 players, and with $1,000 added, the first-place prize is HIGHER than I've seen in other tournaments of this size with MORE monies added.

Just out of curiosity, what was the entry fee? In this double-elimination format, does the losers' bracket player have to beat the winners' side player twice, or is it an extended race in the finals?

I enjoy reading the results and look forward to finding out WHO made it to the winner's circle! Thanks for posting! :)

Yes......thanks for posting. Being from Illinois I'm always interested in what's happening at Chris's.

Yes, this tournament was held at the Chris's in Chicago. It started off today at noon and finished up around 6PM. Marco Marquez won first place which was really no big surprise. However, Gil Hernandez beat him in the first set in the finals 7-5. Gil was shooting great and forced a second set where he lost 7-4. Originally, he wasn't sure if he could make it back today to play, but when he was on his winning streak, he made sure he could come back. Henry Brodt is shooting great again, and you never would have guessed that only 6 months ago he couldn't even draw the ball. Gil beat him for a third place finish! A kid from Racine, Wisconsin, made a great appearance over the weekend. His name is John Demet and boy can this kid play. He defeated the following players: Scott Cohen 7-3, Tom McCluskey 7-6, Manuel Chau 7-5 Chuck Ferrera 7-3 Scott Cohen again 7-5 and Paul Navarette 7-6. Neal Jacobs knocked him to the loser's side with a 7-4 score. Henry Brodt gave him his seond loss with a 7-5 score. That will be the last time he goes for $10 in the player auction!

It was a $40 entry with a $10 green fee that was included.

1st Marco Marquez
2nd Gil Hernandez
3rd Henry Brodt
4th John Demet
5th/6th Pons Cruz & Paul Navarette
7th/8th Neal Jacobs & Scott Cohen
9-12 Chuck Ferrera, Tony Gong, Ed Flatt, and Tom McCluskey
