Review of my new Sugartree 8 pt rosewood

Just doing a review of my new Sugartree from Eric Crisp. The cues hit is the absolute nuts!! First, the feel of the cue itself has a great feel with a nice taper on the shafts. The balance point is 18 inches from the butt of the cue. The feedback you get on the white ball is crazy. I mean consistent from shot to shot effortlessly drawing the cue with only using half a stroke. The hit is stiff with a distinct hit that is a "Clean" or "pure" hit if you will. Not a "thump" but more of a solid tink with lots of reaction. I have hit with some cues that had the thump noise but it always seemed to take away from the reaction you get on the cueball. I have owned cues from the following makers: Howard, Richard Black, Bluegrass, Espiritu, Murrell, Coker, Carter, Ned Morris, Whitey aka Hurricane, Kepley, Paul Mottey, Southwest, Gulyassy, Ben Cooper, Zylr, Tim Scruggs, Phillippi, several productions, Schon, Meucci of course, Joss, and hit with many more that are not listed. With no disrepect to any of the above makers (alot of these were very solid playing cues) but in my opinion this cue hits better than any other cue I have ever played with. Several above that I really liked were the Morris, BG, Zylr, Howard (no particular order). The Sugartree had what the Zylr and Howard had as far as being solid with a hit that was Cleaner than ALL cues that I have ever hit with. I am just thankful to own a cue by Mr Crisp and am overall MORE than pleased with this cue. The best thing of all about it is that I received this cue along with another sneaky at the same time and the hit was identical!! I was going to keep the best hitting of the two when I first opened the box. I first hit with the sneaky and was getting disappointed a little before I even tried the 8 pt cue because I felt that the sneaky was a little bit light but had a hit that was awesome. I next tried the 8 pt rosewood cue and what do you know, SAME IDENTICAL HIT!! with a little more forward balance and .4 oz heavier. The thing about it that is amazing to me is that the sneaky had a phenolic joint with a kamui tip and the 8 pt has a mule deer joint and superpro tip, and same hit, WTH...All of this along with the not so flashy SW wood style cues with AAA woods from the shafts to the everything (whale bone, mule deer, mammoth, u name it). I look forward to owning more Sugartrees over the years to come as long as I am able to do so. Keep making players happy Eric, you have a true talent, Trav Dorn.

well well..we have another positive review of Eric's cue yet again, hmmm..i was wondering if we could have a poor hitting cue made by Eric, i would think it would be a tough task finding that.

Hit with 4 SugarTree before and i would second the part on his hit being identical or similar.

Trav, when u get a chance, get his old growth, u will love it, the hit is "cleaner" and more "refine" than your present shaft.

P.S: I have it and i absolutly love it

I have a cocobolo cue in the works that Eric claims to have gotten from a tree in outerspace  :p That one is supposed to be coming with some old growth darker shafts. I told him I wanted to try them out on a future cue. I can't wait to try them as well. I couldnt imagine it hitting any cleaner but I take your word on that. :) Did you have a regular shaft of his and then go to an older one? Thanks man and take care, Trav Dorn.

Well yeah, i got 2 of his normal shaft before getting his old growth and i am truly amazed by the hit of his old growth over his normal shaft.

Eric's old growth is not overly stiff, and has very high playability, i can't imagine any shaft hitting better then his normal shaft, but he assured me that i will love the old growth and true enough, i love it more then the original shaft that comes with it.

What Eric promise, he will deliver, that is for sure, CHEERS !!!

Some things in life is not worth letting go for a profit.

Exactly, I swear to you I would not take 3 grand for my new ST, as bad as I could use the money.

I just bought one. I hope I feel that way. I have tried pretty much every cue that gets hype on AZ, most are a bit disappointing really. Maybe thats because my expectations are to high. Of the cues I have owned, Tascarella, Scruggs,South West, Hercek, James White, Wheeler, Blackcreek, Bluegrass, Runde Schon, Jensen, Rick Howard, Jeff Olney, Schuler,Dayton and many more, Price and playability don't seem to have anything to do with each other. IMHO of coarse.

Price

Price has nothing to do with it at all...I played with a three thousand dollar Franklin SW and my 2003 Satin was 100 times the cue (too bad it was stolen).

KUDOS again to Eric, love the woods...cannot wait to see what's next out of the shop. Eric is cooking up some nice stuff right now!

Oh, and congrats Trav!

Those superpro tips are great, they are basically free and play just as good as any layered tip out there and hold their shape very well.

I will. I should have it next week. Trav's review has me optimistic, especially because he has tried alot of the same cues I have.
thanks-jeff

I like the brown he uses and how its got a weave texture look to it. Ive seen that on Tascarella cues too. Good looking cues for sure.
