At the Villards Cup, Revo came back from almost certain defeat at the hands of the Magician and stunned the KING. He's 19 YO and if I'm not mistaken Edwin Reyes the cuemaker had something to do with bringing Rene Mar "Revo" David along.

Efren, just needs one session of pool with his mini-backer and he will be back on top. You'll see. Just remember what I said.

Has anyone heard anything else about the tournament in Galveston, TX?
Efren had mentioned he might be going to it and if he goes, his mini-backer won't be far away.

Thanks for the extra info. It is always fun to track how the youngsters do. They all have a ton of heart. When they have skills so much the better. When they have heart, skills, and smarts, look out world here they come!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect there are at least 8-10 players in the 17-20 year old range in Manila who play close to Revo's speed. I know I've seen three or four myself and heard about others.

If anyone wants to know how good these kids play, my estimate is that they play good enough to win any stop on any regional tour here, and to be a contender in any tournament anywhere. In other words, they are major league players already.

Shane played Revo one set last year for $500 at one of Puyat's rooms. He beat him 11-9 but I was sweating the kid pretty hard. He didn't care that he was playing SVB. He was trying to win, and almost did.

Somehow this "turmoil" that's been happening in the Philippines have brought along some blessings and timely at that. In 2005 to 2008, we saw the rise of the Taiwanese and Europeans and we all saw that coming as early as the start of the millenium. Luckily, it was at this start of the millenium too that the Player management groups started here in the Philippines. What a colorful trip that Philippine Pool took.

Yes there are Jay. Revo, Johann "Bubwit" Chua and Mike Takayama are starting to break out of that pack. Hopefully Revo's and Mike's continuous success in tournament and challenge match results will inspire the rest of the pack to work harder on their games.

The rest of the pack includes Mark Mendoza, Patrick Gonzales, Jay Millares. Jek Limen, Michael Faraon, Jordan Legaspi, John Cerna, Jo Mar deOcampo, Jericho Banares (2nd in the recent World Juniors in Reno) and 15 yr old Jonas Magpantay (4th in Reno).

It was also brought to my attention that there are a few more that are still in the provinces and a 16 yrs old that just got here in Manila. Manila is the place to fine tune any player's skills and these boys know it.

Mr. Puyat said years ago, to a friend who talked to him about the good players in the provinces, "If they're good enough they'll be here in Manila and if they're good enough to last long here in Manila then they're going to be with me". Nowadays, if they're going to be good enough to last here in Manila, they're going to be with the BMPAP.:smile:

Bring at least 20 of your books here on your next trip Jay. That may not be enough but I don't want you to pay for over weight baggage penalty.

I haven't heard anything more than what the website says. There is contact info if you want to try to get some info. The date makes me wonder though, prime hurricane season.

You named thirteen right there, and I suspect (like you) there are a few more out there in the provinces. So my estimate of 8-10 was low. Why am I not surprised? Maybe it is more like 15-20 high speed junior players in the PI right now. And maybe a couple of dozen more under age 25.

I was very impressed with Mike Takayama last year. This kid can really play. It will take a top player to beat him and they had better play good against him. I like these kids because they have no fear of anyone, and they just don't dog it.

I forgot 1 more, Mark Malayan, so make that 14 in the top group where anyone of those can win against the other in any given day. It's just that now-a-days, the three that I mentioned will be favored a bit over the others. If I remember right, we had a full pack of 64 players in one of our National Juniors tournaments. And there were like 4 more who couldn't play because of the 64-man field limitation. What a drag.
