Reyes in Florida in 1981?

Does anyone know if Efren Reyes was in the Tampa-St. Pete, Florida area in 1981? I played A guy straight pool and then some three-cushion at Tom?s Billiards in Pinellas Park A few people, including Tom the owner told me that it was Efren a few days later. I played him one afternoon for about 3 or four hours. That night and the next day they said he broke everyone in the place playing golf on the Snooker Table and then three-cushion. There was a Snooker champ from Canada there that was hustling in the area. Efren? busted him in Snooker and got his car too. Johnnyt

The earliest photo's we have of him at the Flamingo were from the mid 80's.
Tom's park billiards was a great pool room, I spent allot of time playing there in the 70's and 80's. Tom sold out to Charlie around 1988 and Charlie turned it into the "One Pocket Club" many a late night poker game went on
there.:D

Charlie then packed up everything and moved to a smaller place above the Speed shop on 34st (US19) in St.Pete, and the next year he packed it up and moved to the Carolina's.

I still have picture post cards from Tom's.

As far as Efren, he was a regular at the Flamingo, but this was around 85 and 86. I don't ever recall playing a guy around here named Efren.
It could have been "Boy" , "Tran" or "Rodell" they are all local hustlers that
have similar features, Boy looks the most like Efren and Tran could destroy anyone on a 3C, Rodell is a all around strong player.

I will see what I can find out.:)

I will ask around when I see some of the guys from the old days.

I thought Efren also was in the States prior to Red's. Where and when did Efren play Allen Hopkins (or was it Mike Sigel?) even rotation and demolish him? I heard there was more side action on that game then the top three places of the tourny. Everyone wanted to bet on Hopkins/Sigel? and Efren's backers covered the rail and made a large 5 figure score

It may have been Carlos Hallon.

Robert

Edit: maybe not - I missed the snooker champ part at the end the first time. Carlos was 1982 US champ in 3-cushion, and I've heard he used to rob everyone in golf on a 6x12 in those days. I'm not so sure about actual snooker, though.

that guy on the left is a dead ringer for Dennis Orcullo

I thought the same thing!! Too bad Orcullo was only 6! But it's scary how much they look alike!

Efren could have not been in Florida in '81.
He did not have a US visa then. He wasn't using Cesar Morales' passport either.
But, interestingly enough, a body was unearthed in Florida a few years back.
They said the body looked like older than before Columbos discovered America.
The body is thought to be of a Filipino traver. The body was holding a long sick with two loose fingers and elbow tucked in. :P

I believe that happened right after Red's.
That was in Buddy Hall's book too where Buddy beat Efren after Efren ran over Sigel.

Thanks Captain. Johnnyt

From the guys I have seen so far, they all think it was Tran, he was always in the action at Tom's & Crazy Cue. Nobody knows who the Snooker player was. 85 was the earliest Efren played at Bakers in Tampa also.

I will see more of the guys over the weekend and let you know what I find out.

:)
