Yay me. I managed to set the fire alarm on this awesome bachelor suite condo I have with tiny wood folding chairs and rockstar fire alarm of doom that was salavaged from a WW2 bunker and candestroy the eardrum of all in its vivinity in about12 seconds and then with longer effect disintegrate the wals of the building themselves.

So I am superhandy man 5000, I go vaulting onto one of the rickety wood folding chairs, dont bother with the cushion on the chair because the feet gotta be cosy. So up I go on my rickety chain and start trying to run the reset left sipping, right spinning, going deaf as hell in the process. Fear this BTW, 2 deaf Shane gonna own this contentinent shortly. But back to the story.

Cushions on chair when fixing stuff is cozy, it also slips really easily and those slips make the certain crappy made entire chair shattering under your weight as you are now falling face first down from about 8 feet.

If you get lucky the whoe thing might shatter and lie flat and then you just oof on the floor. Unlucky will leave that one back section of the chair entact and you will probably as you are falling forward manage to yand with all your body weight on the upper abdomen, intruducing your spleen to the heart, the panreas and spine might do some catching up, and the top of the chair will of course give your puck end it all off by smoking the base of your floating rib.

So, that was a week ago, I am high as a kite on pain medication, a sleeping pill, in agony all the same wondering who the heck has had a broken/bruised or cracked rib, how long did you have to deal with the pain? What were the steps? On the initial fall I got the wind smoked out of me, cursed out of breath curses, 15 seconds later managed to get up. The pain was not too bad an hour after the accident. 3 hours after the accident it started to really hurt. Went to the hospitle they did their shpeel, cracked bruised rib, nada you can do.

Coupe crap days of work sitting dow slow, weekend allow less motion, things feel better on Friday and I am thinking by Sunday it will be a light throb at best. Sunday proves me very wrong, hurts like hell still. Well at weat it is getting better slowly then, money not soo bad, tuesday at world, almost a week after the accident, and it hurts like crap, feeling nausious.

For anyone who has had a bruised or cracked rib, I know you can do little but inundate yourself into a stupore of drugs until things get better, but when is that? I am at week 1 tomorrow, might the pain start to subside now? Do Ihave a full week of the same agony and then at the 3rd week a slow comming down?

Since this has too mention pool, when will all that motion come back so my pool game has all of the free reign of motion and zero pain associated with it.

I have bruised and broken a few ribs in my time, each time it took me about 4 weeks to recover. I feel for you man..I know how much it hurts!

Toss the pain pills. You don't want to mask the pain. Pain is good for you, and it lets your brain know what it needs to know. If the pain gets too much for you, focus on your breathing until the pain subsides.

I got punched in the rib during a sparring match and it cracked. It stayed painful for a few days, but I learned to deal with the pain. I was sparring within the next week. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it except let it heal on it's own.

Lower abdominal breathing will increase oxygen levels in the muscles and the brain. When you get hurt, your body produces natural chemicals called endorphins that are released to help withstand the pain. With this type of injury you must keep a strong mind. The weaker your mind is, the less will power you will have and therefore will submit to secondary methods to mask the pain and will ultimately prolong your discomfort.

look at the bright side..

I had a broken rib... and truly learned what the words "stay still during your stroke" really meant....

this is from experiance.. after the really crappy first week is over...it only hurts when your breath after that... if you can manage yourself into a shooting stance...

and stroke the ball without pain

that was my light bulb moment...the only body parts moving were below my elbow... if it hurt I did it wrong.. if it didn't hurt .. I never missed...

almost 2 years later and that lesson remains... it sucks... but when you find a way to shoot without pain... take notes

good luck

I've cracked a rib twice and both times it took around 5 weeks to heal. Get a bunch of calcium and vitamin D. Those will help build strong bone faster. I only took ibuprofen to ease the pain and keep inflammation in check. Be careful not to re-break. It's easy to do early on and it hurts just about as bad as the initial break. It's character building. It builds the kind of character that avoids breaking ribs like the plague.

It'll take 3 weeks if you're a young guy to heal. 4 weeks if you're not. Don't sneeze! :) An important thing is to make sure you don't take shallow breaths for the 3 weeks because of the break . Maintain normal breathing or you can get bad things like chronic bronchitis, etc. They don't tell you that at the hospital so they can have a repeat customer. After a half dozen cracked ribs I know! Bastiches!
