Richard Black cues

Very convenient - you knock a world class cuemaker - but showing proof
is too much to ask for. Take a walk to jimbo's where you belong.

I know it's hard for you to understand with your small mind.
If ANYBODY on here wants to walk into Ted Harris's shop and take a pic you're more than welcome.
BTW, it's real convenient I've lived the last 25 years away from home in hotels mostly....

If your RB is as bad as you say, and I have no reason whatsoever to
doubt you, I'm inclined to think it's a fake.

His craftsmanship on every cue I have owned and have seen is second to
none and the hit on his cues is superb.
He also has had superb post sale customer service. He really seems to
care.

My girlfriend has this cue for sale, would you know if this is a Richard Black cue for sure? she is adamant it was, but we need it verifying.
Thanks Lee

I don't see his signature there.
Can you do a close up of it.
He has a particular way of doing it.

Typical... con man's deflection.

And if YOU care to compare IQs - I'll bet my house.

No.4, not Richard hoarding cues i mean he made a lot of cues for specific customer, but not too many people sell their Black cues.

Well, I'll go out on a limb and guess that most people are happy with their cues and
don't want to sell them.

My question to you is what exactly are you wanting to accomplish?

It sounds like you are looking for high dollar cues that you can 'flip' at a tidy profit.

If that is the case - the chances for doing that are much less than they once were.

There are still the 'guaranteed money makers' like Jay mentioned, and even a few more.

The problem is that buying one from the cuemaker takes YEARS... and the used
market is overwhelmingly held by people who know what their cues are worth.

Dude.... If RB cues sucked that bad for you, you would already have pictures handy. Why? Because I have already seen you post about his cues before, pretty much saying the same thing. Now, could you have two of his cues that aren't very good? Of course you can. I had a Tasc that was subpar. The fundamental difference between me and you is simple, I don't mention it very often. Ever. Thus, it leads me to believe this run deep with you, regardless of how accurate it is or not.

I own 3 RB cues. Love them all. I did hit with one 20 years ago that I thought sucked. Played dead. Maybe if the tip was changed? Maybe a different shaft? Maybe....?? Get my point?

Oh, by the way, since these cues are so far away, just have Ted Harris and who-the-hell else snap a few and send them to you! Post up, problem solved. Just a suggestion....

I have 1 now and had probably 10-12 others. From plain widows and Hoppes, to fancier cues. His cues are some of the best, end of story. Anybody that says otherwise is clueless. Haven't heard many things dumber than that.

I could give a shit less! Just stating facts. Buy all his cues you want, as a matter of fact you can buy the 3 I have, I won't feel the least bit bad selling you or the other guy these pieces of crap.
to the other poster, it is not a fake.

Send me some pictures and specs. Maybe I will.

Since they are so bad, and they are not good investments, I will do a hunnerd a piece for them.:)

I always felt that I wanted to own a Richard Black. I finally acquired one last year that was missing it's original shafts and the butt had a roll. It was a beautiful 6-pointer with an ivory joint and ivory propellers. I contacted Richard and he said he could try to fix the roll and would make 2 matching shafts.

I guess the roll was too much to remove completely because it still had a bit when I got it back. Completely understandable but the two new shafts had joint rings that didn't totally match the butt. He had the butt so why couldn't he match them? Colors were OK but the stitched pattern wasn't the same size as the butt.

Instead of making a big deal, I sold the cue. Maybe I should have said something to him but what the hell? He had the butt in his possession. The work on the butt & new shafts wasn't cheap. He builds nice cues but I guess things fall through the cracks once in a while. Unfortunately I am no longer interested acquiring another (at this time).

If he shipped it and thought those matched... or whoever he had make them, it is bad.

Interesting discussion, both positive and negative. Maybe the impression depends on the era of production. However, this is a 1990 Black that I will never let out of my hands.

i have had the same experiences with some richard black cues that jason has had.

no i dont have any pictures as i never bought any of them. they were offered to me for sale and iirc out of 6 or 7, at least 4 of them had a hit that left a lot to be desired. i remember in one of them the dot inlay went into the veneers. also seen a bunch with pretty big glue lines right down the middle (if you want a picture, these you can find from a basic google image search of his cues). i have seen some of the same models that looks much better so they appear hit or miss from what i've seen.

his fancier cues look a lot nicer but the more basic models are the ones i'm talking about here.

Richard Black

NOT a choice to order RB, he ONLY focus on money, active in replying emails but less concentration, PASS.

If I could find a RB cue in the mid 18 ozs with a flat ivoy joint and shafts that weren't tootsie roll fat, I'd get it......I think Richard is a top shelf cue-maker.......one of the best and so are the cue tips he makes for himself......I would love to get a Alamo or Pendelton cue design......he's an extraordinarily gifted cue-maker IMO.

p.s......shoulder surgery tomorrow morning.......just completed the refinishing all my cues' shafts ...... my cues are now stored for the next 4 months......something tells me I am going to want to buy a new cue when I get back to playing.

p.p.s. Dirk....hope to meet you at the Mosconi Cup in December.....don't forget to bring that great cue for me.
