Well I finally got a chance to play with this cue:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=1699990#post1699990

It is the first custom cue that actually came out to the exact specs I requested, exactly 19 ounces, 13mm shafts, balance point 20 inches, and so on. I love the feel of a forward balanced cue.

The shaft taper along with the ivory ferrules and the Kamui Black H tips provide a stiff but very lively hit. In fact, very little effort is needed when playing position. Keep in mind, that I don't play a lot of 9-ball and don't juice the cueball a lot unless it is absolutely necessary.

The flat faced wood to wood joint with the big pin has pretty much always been by favorite hit, (along with shaft, ferrule and tip combinations) and this cue does not require much mental or physical adjustment for me, as I have been playing with a MasonH for the last 8 months. Mason's Micarta ferrule is hard to beat, however.

The kangaroo wrap is absolutely the best wrap I have ever felt on any cue, not to tacky, not too smooth and really well done.

I am very happy with this cue and probably will play with it for few weeks.

I would not hesitate to try out a Rick Howard cue, and I have another on order.

I have seen this cue in person and it is gorgeous. However Dj didnt offer to let me hit with it. <whats up with that?> :grin-square: But personally I would have gone with a white phenolic butt capp to accent the rings and joint. That's just me. Beautiful cue DJ.

All you have to do is ask LOL

I don't have band practice tonight, so if Russ needs a sub, I will be down there and you will have another chance!

Very nice. I have a sneaky from Rick and it's a forearm workout screwing it together. Is yours like that? The first time if must've taken about a minute to put the shaft on.

Exactly, the tolerances are very tight. The first time it actually took about 30-40 seconds for me to get it started and another 30 seconds to get it screwed on.

This is a good thing.

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the review. The Rick Howard must be amazing to get an Ebony cue down to 10 ounces, I am sure that is a typo;);) Cool looking cue and great review.

Take Care

Update

I had a chance to play some 14.1 with this cue for about 3 hours on Sunday. It really plays well, nice sound when you hit the CB, great balance, best wrap ever, and I ran 27 first time out that day which is good for me.

I have showed the cue to a number of players and when I mentione Rick Howard, they say, "Oh, the pro player?" Yep, that's him.

Well, I guess Rick's playing ability has translated into his ability to make a great hitting cue.
