After hearing a ton of great thing's about Rick's cues, I decided to check one out for myself.

I got this cue yesterday, and all I can say is...

WOW!!!!!

Absolutely brilliant execution of a simple, yet classic design. The fit and finish of this cue is probably the best I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot! His ringwork is perfect, and everything lines up dead on. Finally the wood selection is AMAZING!!! Jet black Gaboon Ebony and the perfect piece of curly maple for the handle. I tried to get a few shots to show the figure in the wood. Seriously guys, this thing is just stunning in person!

For those of you that have been considering one of Rick's cues, I'll let the pictures do the convincing...

Gorgeous cue, Mike. Very simple, but elegant, the contrast between the ebony and maple looks great. I bet the hit sounds like a door closing on a Bentley. Uncored ebony is where it is at as far as I am concerned.

Now I really can't wait for mine!

An awesome looking cue and pictures that really show off how well the cue looks.
Thanks for the incredible pictures.

Nice

I am glad you like it. Give it a couple of weeks to break in- then you will really really enjoy it. I like my current cue- it seems to play better with time.

I have an idea for a new one but it will be a while before I get another cue.

Sounds stupid....

I play daily with my Rick Howard cue. It is ebony on ebony with blue, black, blue veneers. Mine too, has uncored ebony and I cant believe he made it to less than my desired wieght. I had asked him to make it 19-19.5 max. It came out at 18.8 and he said it balanced and played so nice he couldnt change it (but would if I insisted.) He was right, it did play good at that weight but it is the lightest cue I own.

He told me that I had to "break it in for a couple weeks". I thought that sounded pretty wierd, as I have had many cues build for me, and never heard it before. But sure enough about 2-3 weeks later, the cue played better than it did new. Strange.

I still dont understand it.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Ken, I have seen your cue and it is a beauty.

I know players say that there is a break-in time to cues, but I guess I always thought it meant just getting use to a new cue. Then I remember reading in the Blue book (Volume 1 or 2?) about the St. Louis shooter saying that after a few weeks the shafts will break in and the cue will play like it's supposed to, so I guess there is one for the cue, too. I forgot about that until now.

I'll log some playing time with The Pearl, and get back to you with a full review.

Good luck with your new cue. You can't go wrong with one of Rick's cues and it looks like you got a nice one. Enjoy

Mike,

Congratulations on your new cue! I think it looks awesome and I know that you'll enjoy it. I know something about your cue history and if you say this cue is as nice as you've seen then it really means something to me because you've owned some of the top cue maker's cues out there.....

Shoot straight and enjoy your new cue.

James
