I picked this cue up for little money off an auction site. Even though it was cheap it doesn't feel cheap, it appears to be well made and laser straight. There appears to be a stamp on the forearm, it is very faded but it look like "Rieper Co". Anyone have some info on this cue / manufacturer? Could it just be a well made cheap import cue?
Thanks.

Thank you! Not sure why that thread didn't appear in my google search!

If you find out what that wrap is, I'm curious. Might just be dirty linen, but I don't think so.

Cool cue. Old conversion. Brown KU bumper. Might be Cortland. Odd length on joint collar and butt cap, I guess to get the length. I would expect a 14 pin, so that's a little unusual.

I was kinda leaning that way.
Here's one of mine...
What's the prognosis?? Doc??
On closer inspection, that winding looks wrong for Cortland. Cleaning it could reveal a lot.

Since it is a conversion, and I don't see anything special indicating a major maker or historical value, I don't think there is anything wrong with cleaning it up or refinishing it to whatever extent you like. I wouldn't put a modern finish on it though, that would be tits on a bull.

Are you looking at the JP's? In the fourth picture above it shows the joint ends without them, they don't seem too long to me?

Yeah, me too although, as Chopdoc mentioned, it is very dirty and a good cleaning by Proficient would help.

#1 and #3 in this pic have Cortland, best pic I have of them.

I agree with the finish, I'd send it off to have the wrap cleaned up and play it as is.
