Rings... they are worth ... $ ?

I had a cue maker ask me to build some rings for him because his shop is not equipped for it yet. Let's just say we had a "discussion" about the price. lol.

It is a 4 inch joint size billet, black phenolic with 30 slots of .032" sterling silver.

So ... I ask you this. Any of you who know what is involved, and the cost of the materials involved, what would you be willing to pay for this if you could not make it yourself? What would you expect to get if you made it for someone else?

Can't you just add the price of the materials to the cost of your labor (since you know how long it took to make the rings) and tack on a percentage that makes you satisfied?

If a person doesn't meet that price, then it is not worth the effort it takes for you to produce them.

Well, I could live with that. lol. In this case, that's about $200 for the 4 inch billet. But if you were a cue maker, would you pay $50 an inch for it?

Are you saying labor PLUS 3 times the cost of parts, or just 3 times the parts cost for a total ?

my take as a consumer....
don't qmakers charge upwards of $1xx per ring?? 4" = 40+ rings = $4000 at least ! that's my math, anyway.

so what's your qmaking customer complaining about again?

Approx. 60.00 for silver, 6.00 for 5" phenolic plus 1 hr. CNC time if the program is already wrote and another hour glue up. If I was to do it I'd charge around 125.00.

That sounds fair. I was thinking about $80 with Micarta instead of silver.

well,,,let's see now. ernie would charge $100-150+.
even $50 per = $2000 worth. how far off am i. :)
 
When someone talks me into selling my 12 slot silver stitch rings I charge $10 per ring parted off to 1/8". My silver is a little wider than that, but you have a lot more slots. If he is buying the whole stick cut up into 1/8" rings I think $10 per ring is cheap enough and should get you about $200. If he wouldn't pay at least that much, I wouldn't make them if I were you.

Prather will sell you blank (slotted) billets of phenolic for about $10 an inch. Glue in your own silver, and you are good to go. With Dick's $60 estimated cost for silver, you are looking at around $120, and you would have to glue it all up yourself. I would probably charge closer to $200, because I don't really want to build parts for people, and I place a very high value on my time, and besides, billets are boring to make. :D

I havent a clue to the monetary value but i think the rings are great looking Mr. P.....................:)

This seems high but it's not. That is just about right. I remember when I didn't make them and Chester charged me 15.00 per ring and that was 5 years ago. Silver has really went up. Butterflycues

You have to make sure you take into consideration ALL things involved when you figure your prices. Silver is now approx $14.50 oz...........
