last saw brian in december at viking tournament in birmingham it seems like... always a nice guy and a helluva player... my condolences to the family and his pool family

Really bums me out when we lose a member of the Pool playing sub-culture. As individuals, we will probably never see their like again. It hurts more deeply when it's someone I've known, at least even a little bit. I'm thinking of Pat Howey. Also, a player friend of mine of over thirty years who lost his wife and daughter in a horrible rear end collision on the highway in NYS. And one so young, like Brian. Condolences to Billy and the family. My heart cries for you all.

Sometimes being a great person is much more important then being able to run out a lot. In Brian's case, it sounds like he was a great person and a great player. I don't know him at all, but it is great to hear all the great things people have to say about him and his family. My condolences to his family in these terrible times.

Brian was a very sweet and polite guy. I always enjoyed running into him at the poolrooms. RIP Brian and condolences to his family. He will be missed!

Hate to here about Brian's passing. I remember back several years he was in bad shape and many thought he might not back it then. He battled through however.
Back when Brian was pretty young and traveling the south we made several dollars together. With his age he had the ability to get in some really good games that other players couldnt.

He is a Brian story.. not real funny but something that always sticks in my mind.
Brian was traveling with Mike Gullyassy and was trying to get in action somehow. We were in Mobile and at the Neon Palace. All the players stayed near the front and the locals in the back. I sent Brian to the back to get a game and gave him some cash. He went back and drummed out
a few hundred. So every now and then he would come by and say "i am going to go back and tey and make some cash". I would say okay and off he would go. It worked.
In the meantime I am "IN" with my friend Stoney on all of his games and we are trying to get into something as well.

I am sitting with Dean Moore and Stoney comes by and says he has a game with some kid for $100 a set. A little while later Brian comes up and says he is playing in the back and has a game. I never thought that they
could be playing each other but there they were. Dean never let me live that one down! :D

RIP Brian and God Bless his family

I just received a phone call that Brian Tyler died about 45 minutes ago. Anyone who knew Brian knows what a great player and competitor he was.

My condolences to his Dad Billy, and the rest of the family.

Mike

That is very sad news.

We will miss you Brian !

I first met Brian's dad Billy in 1988 when he came into my pool room in Clayton, Ga.. Soon Billy and I were having soon pretty good matches several nights a week and Billy started bringing in with him this chubby little kid named Brian. As Billy and I played for hours, the Chubby little 10 year old kid who could hardly reach over the rails to shoot would spend those hours playing away on a back table all alone. A few years later by the time I sold the pool room, he had become a pretty good shot maker just working on his game alone in the back of the room. Who knew that he would grow up to be the player he became.

Twenty years later when my wife and I opened a new pool room in western N.C., Brian was one of the first to come in and see me. He threw his arms around me and it was like we had never skipped a beat over those twenty years. The only difference was that hardly anyone could beat him on a pool table anymore.

On the Sunday of the Smoky Mountain Shootout, my wife and I left early and went to the hospital to visit Brian. He still had that beautiful smile on his face that we will all miss dearly. We gave him a big hug, told him we loved him and then found out the next day that Brian had passed on. I will forever be thankful that we decided to go see him on that Sunday.

I was so amazed at the number of friends that showed up at the funeral home to say their last goodbyes to Brian. The line of pool players and non pool players seemed to never end.

We will miss the big beautiful smile that always brightened up the room and the warm loving hugs we always got when Brian came into and left the pool room.

Brian was the kind of guy that could beat you on the pool table with one hand tied behind his back and make you feel like you enjoyed every minute of the beating.

We will always miss you Brian and you will forever be in our thoughts and memories.

Jim Lanning

PS. Brian is probably trying to get the seven ball and the break from "The Miz" and "Wimpy" right now.
