RIP Pat Howey

This is some very sad news. Pat was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I have some video of Pat competing at the 2007 DCC Straight Pool Challenge - I'll get a screen shot of that and post in the Hall Of Fame section as soon as possible.

RIP, poolshark52.

David, that would be great if you can post that in the Hall of Fame section.

For those that didn't know Pat, the sweetest slip stroke EVER at anytime by anyone on the planet was possessed by Pat Howey. And he was as nice of a person as his stroke.

Hi this is Cody Bova, and i am his grandson. For all of you who didn't know Pat was one of the greatest men alive. He had the biggest heart in the world and cared for everybody. He was one of the best pool players and fisherman and he would always love to show you some of his cool tricks in fishing and in pool. I will miss you grandpa. Love your grandson Cody.

Hi Cody, your grandpa sure was one of the greatest. He always left a lasting impression of friendship and kindness with whomever he came in contact with. We surely will miss him, but his memory and legacy he left upon us will always remain.

I did not know Pat but had the honor of talking to him at the DCC in 07. I could tell he was just a great guy and he had a really nice smooth slip stroke and he made 14.1 look so easy. He ran balls like a fish swimming totally effortless. And he had wonderful patterns and his ball speed was spot on. He played with an old cue maybe a Palmer (bought it late 60's)and it looked white because he used a lot of powder I guess for the slip stroke.

I think he used to play with Sigel and some of those big name guys from out east and I think he could give them a game. I had not heard his name before but you could tell he was a real 14.1 player.

I wanted to look him up when I went down to FL last time because he said he would be glad to hit some balls with me but I did not make it over to the gulf side.

My prayers go out to his family and friends. I wish I could have known him better.

Were you able to get any of Pat's good runs on tape?

In the videos that Dennis sent to me, I have a few of his attempts and some good break shots (that side pocket shot was his favorite) - but no runs of any significance.

I was just wondering if you had gotten his 75 on tape. I think that everybody could learn from Pat's patterns and his ability to control the speed of everything on the table.

I am sorry for everyone's loss; I personally was not lucky enough to know Pat, but from what I hear he was aces.

Would love to see any video anyone has.

Once again, deeply sorry to all those who knew him.

utube slideshow of dad

If anyone would like to see a short tribute to dad (Pat), his sister posted something on utube. Go to the site and search Erwin Patrick Howey Memorial. Its a nice little picture slide show in his memory.

I have some footage of your dad playing pool. If you would like a copy of it, I can send it to you.

I watched the video and enjoyed the pictures - but FYI - youtube has disabled the audio.

For quite a few years, Pat and friends made their way to Lancaster for the Pennsylvania State Bar Box 8-Ball Championships. As the tournament director and promoter, I had the pleasure of speaking with Pat on the phone and at the tournament many times. We exchanged war stories a number of times. He was a great competitor and I was glad to have met and talk with him, as it was. The group of 8-ballers who used to come from Rochester to play in that event, always spoke well of Pat and from my observations, relished his company.

Best wishes to his family and friends.

God Bless the Captain.
