RIP Paul Sorvino

I think I read in "Playing off the Rail" that he was an excellent pool player. That video confirmed it. He's probably playing with Ray Liotta and the other wise guys in heaven. RIP...

I had the chance to play pool with Paul at Amsterdam Billiards back in the early 1990's. He was a good player and a good fella.

Paul was a good friend. I certainly played him at least fifteen times at the West Side location of Amsterdam Billiards in the period 1998-2005. Hung out with him, Charlie Ursitti and Pete Margo on a couple of occasions. Nice guy for sure. Perhaps a C+ player, equating to something like a Fargo 525, but he occasionally caught a gear and could be a tough out.

... and it would be impossible to overstate just how proud he was of his daughter Mira, who had a great acting career.

RIP, my friend.

I went to dinner with Paul S and Mike Segal in la in 2015 or 16 at a popular Italian spot called Ago. He and Mike were good friends for many years, I can’t recall how Mike met him. Paul was a very nice guy and we had a 2 hour dinner, his daughter has a horse rescue farm by Bakersfield Ca he was telling us about.

Then on the way out of the restaurant we ran into the guy who was in COM at the bar-like in the end of the movie when Vince was negotiating a game with the guy, he was also Beanzy in Sopranos. (He recently passed away as well) Was a trip as he was leaning on the bar alone just like in COM, Mike recognized him. It was a million to 1 chance meeting. Like we walked onto the set of the movie.

What a night!

RIP Paul🙏🏼

It's a near certainty Paul wouldn't let you pick up the check. Correct?

Beansie (Paul Herman) is still alive but otherwise cool story. Thank you!

Edit: I was wrong. Beansie did pass away this year. I looked it up and my source did not show him as deceased - Apologies Fatboy... Thanks for pointing this out Evergruven

Paulie was a friend of ours……..Can’t you still see him
slicing garlic with a razor blade cooking in his jail cell?

He had a look, sorta like Joe Torre has. Street tough guys
& both of them widely acclaimed Italian food aficionados.

RIP paison….I hope the guys from the neighborhood greet
you at the pearly gates along with all of God’s other angels.

Don't put too much onions in the sauce, sounds just like the kitchens and restaurants I spent time in. He brought a credibility to the role that no one else could have

He pulled a move actually. There was 5 of us and when the check came it was around $600 he said “grab the check and I’ll cook tmr night at my place, we’ll have a great dinner”. I knew right then it was game over. I paid.

One thing I’ve learned living in LA for ever, every time I’ve had dinner/lunch/what ever with a celeb-they NEVER pay or even offer to. That’s a lock. Paul was no different. There was no tomorrow night at his place. Mike called him a couple times. I told Mike-zero chance, he “got busy”.

That’s how it goes,

I always thought the real value of having lunch/dinner with a celebrity was being able to name-drop later on about who you were with. That's why the non-celebrities are expected to pick up the check.

You forgot that Paulie didn't have to move for anybody.

In 1990, I was in an LA eatery and spotted Robert Loggia there having dinner.
I asked the waiter to bring his table a round of drinks on me and just tell him….
Thanks for the great memories watching him play Elfego Baca on Disneyland.
He glanced our way, imaginarily tipped his hat & with a broad smile, toasted us.

His table of four left before my party of two. Before he left, he gave a friendly wave.
I asked the waiter for my check and after a few minutes he returned saying that
apparently Mr. Loggia had taken care of it. Our dinner was gratis…..I was floored
by what happened and so I left a very generous tip and our kindest thank you note.

I didn’t really care.

I just stared a fact.

I didn’t know who he was until Mike told me. I never heard of him. I don’t watch many movies.

This is a thread I had a response for. I don’t give 2 shits about a dinner I had with a stranger.

The cool part was the 2nd story seeing Beanzie at the end of the night-so I added it to this story.

Name dropping? Lololol: I’m the name kid-that’s all that matters

I need to see one of his movies. He was a nice guy, great vibes. He spoke mostly about his daughter and the horse rescue in Bakersfield. He liked Mike a lot and Mikes stories-they met somewhere, they talked about that. I just listened mostly. It was a fun night, I was lucky to be there. I didn’t have much to add to the conversation.

Edit: They did talk about pool some, Mikes stories are cool imo. I like listening to them, and as we all know Mike can talk-which was fun. I like Mike-I had only met him a few days before that dinner. Now fast forward a few years-we speak pretty often. I just mostly listen. Kinda off topic-but I’ll mention it here, some of the 80’s pool stuff I was around for and Mike keeps it real. His recollection of the era that I saw is accurate imo. Guys like Paul who was a big actor can always find a anyone to hang with. To his credit he liked Mike and for good reason. If you like pool stories Mike is your guy.

I hope who ever reads this likes this post.

Thx for the movie clip, I’ll give it a watch. I need some new movies in my iPad for flights. I’ve been watching the same 6-8 movies for the last few years.

Thx again,

Best
Fatboy 💪😃👍
