RIP Scotty Townsend

Both of times I saw him play in tournaments he was quite the crowd favorite. He was really cool to get to talk to and it was fun to watch him running out and out on bar tables.
Scotty was a cherished friend, most of the crazy stories you have heard of him(Huey P long bridge, example) are true. So many of his exploits relayed to me by him personally would make you laugh until you cried. Have Andy Gilbert tell you some of their childhood antics. Scotty wasn't just a good pool player, he was a great player. He wasn't just a man, he was a man's man.Yes he was a whisky drinking, bar fighting, never backdown gambling rascal, but you had to love him if you knew him. " I never lost playing poll, I just ran out of money". RIP Scotty

I especially feel for his kids,
his youngest is like 15 or 16,
This is shitty, whenever something like this happens, but just before the holidays and he so LOVED his family, that is why he didn't travel as much as he used to in the 1980 and 1990s. He always played, sporty and could hang with all the big dogs.
A true 'gentleman' of the game, gone way too soon,

I hope that every room in heaven has a pool---I backed Danny Medina against Scotty a couple decades ago and it is a match that I will never forget, both of them had their breaks working at the highest level and wide open--5th gear for both of them for twenty hours. I wish we had cell phone like we do now, this is a match that the WORLD should have been able to enjoy for ETERNITY!!!

I am not in a hurry to get to heaven but when I do get their, this is a rematch that I will be looking forward to be flying around with my wings to have the perfect--eye in the sky position to watch both of these guys play, again.

I just heard the sad news tonight about Scotty's passing,
he will most certainly be missed for the person he was,
not just the great pool player

Someone I will Not forget
Just saw this news when I noticed a "Memorial Tournament" in Scotty's name. I don't post much anymore, but I wanted to pay my respects to Scotty along with the other players here on AZ.
Scotty was one of our 9 Ball State Champions here in Birmingham, Alabama. Of course, he was a much better player than just a state champion. But beyond that, Scotty had real charisma. He would wear the leather boots and the big belt buckle, and he matched the attire with a surreal confidence and a million dollar smile. He was one of the few guys that make pool really fun to watch and inspired many to pursue the game. He would have been a great character in "The Color of Money II," should they ever be so kind as to grace us with a 2nd movie. Scotty was the real deal, and the kind of guy that makes the stories we all love to hear about.
I know that I will miss Scotty Townsend the pool player very much, and I wish to convey my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
He lived strong, and he lived well. I respect that.
