Risk vs Reward - Wang vs Morris

If I'm going to kick it, I like RD's shot the best. You have a much better idea of what speed to use. The more I look at that shot, the more I like it. For a 1h player, the cross bank isn't bad either. I'll stick with my shot but if I couldn't see the edge of the 3, I'd definitely shoot Rude Dog's shot.

RDs shot won't win you the game though- I was going to say 1-rail coz either the combo or the carom is on from there.

You know he thought himself quite fortunate to have the shot PERIOD.

One additional thought would be a one rail kick between the 5 & 7. A full hit on the 3 sends it up table with the cue by the 4, a thin hit gives the chance for the 3 to make the 9 and a thick hit gives the chance for the cue to make the 9.

I knew that. :p

Anyone who has the guts to go for the win this situation has my admiration. I wish I had more confidence in my kicking ability but I would be so nervous that I wouldn't make the hit and leave the easy 3-9 combo. I would most likely go for the safety and just hope I get lucky on the safe :-)

Dave... Why I'm not playing with the big guns, please read above

Very few players would have tried to pull this off.

Kick shots like this are perhaps the most sensitive of all bank shots.

100% of your error is transferred to the cue ball after it hits the rail. What I mean is, even if your aim is dead on, just a thought of unwanted english, or too much or too little intentional english, and the cue ball sails off into the proverbial sunset while you are back there drowning.

Still, as good as the shot was, luck has to be with you to pull it off like he did.

What if Wang had missed?

There's a very good point here - Had Wang played the kick, failed to hit the 3 first and sold out the rack, would we even be discussing it here? Had he played a safety with a thin cut or kick would it have been worthy of conversation?

The stand-out shots that are made are then ones we remember and wonder at, sparking discussions like this one, but how many more misses and safeties do we see that are never mentioned?

"My candle burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends—
It gives a lovely light."
