It's hard to seperate fact from fiction when you stop and take a look at the AZ BILLIARDS GOD that is the RKC...I've heard legends that he single handedly designed Diamond SmartTables, Ball polishers, the way the cloth is applied...heck I think he may of thought up billiards right after he thought up the light bulb!!

I've heard tall tales of him as if he were Paul Bunyon or John Henry...travling many miles through god forsaken terrian (in a truck that died 100 years ago) on his way happily setting up tables...even sleeping in someones driveway on christmas eve to awake the next morning and share with them christmas breakfast and then set up their table.

Surely if there is a patron saint of table mechanics it is Glen...

and then we all woke up!!!

Diamond tables are the industries best in my opinion and I know I'm not alone. But it doesn't take that much to make a Diamond shine!! The great thing about them is that they are already perfect you don't need to "tweak" them. All you need to make it play well is built right in!

There are all kinds of well qualified people out there to set up tables! Are you serious? " Glen is the ONLY one I'd let touch my table"

Simonis is hear said to be "begging" for him to make a video on cloth installation...The process is simple, a 12 year old could be tought to do it, in reality a very nice looking camera friendly young man would be a better canidate to "star" in such a video...no tank tops, no tube socks...

"Three piece slate on a pro-am, they say it couldn't be done" Who is they? I'm pretty sure they build all of that the same way in the factory as you can in a basement...I am not so easily impressed by your use of a jig saw.

Now I don't really mean any disrespect...you do a wonderful job. But really now, your a table mechanic...sorry " master billiards technichian" it's not rocket science, your not a brain surgeon...life as we know it will go on, it's not like the industry will die when RKC retires.

Just find it frustrating is all...seeing pictures of " last years table mech convention" like we should all bow before the cobra

A few facts about RKC you might not know:

"RKC is a two ton man-mountain who can palm a medicine ball!"

"He grew a 3rd arm and kept it in a vault."

"He's a ten foot tall beastman who showers in vodka and feeds his baby shrimp scampi."

"He orchestrated the merger between Unicef and Smith & Wessen."

"He went public with his own buttocks and made $7 million."

"RKC once hosted the Grammys and gave every award to Corey Hart."

"RKC named the group Sha-Na-Na. They did NOT want to be called that."

"He framed Roger Rabbit."

"One time I was with RKC in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. RKC goes up to the deer and says, 'I'm RKC! SAY IT!' Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, 'RKC' ... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!'"

Mechanic101, I'm getting the impression that you think, bolt A in hole A and that how you build a pool table, and they all play the same.

A person don't usually develop that kind of a reputation until AFTER they've died to funny I'll have to see if I'm still alive, I may have died last night and didn't know it

If you start to bloat up and stink in a couple a days, you'll know for sure. I think you may be one of those living legends though. Keep on truckin Glen!

This is a sure-fire to drum up business, slam the other guy

You may want to search the forum and see how well this worked for some others who have tried this route.

Ya know, I'm up here in McKenney, TX. right now working on a GC3 I delivered to a customer by the name of Scott Robertson. The table came from a guy by the name of Chris, that I delivered a Diamond ProAm 9ft, 3 piece slate to, you might say it was a 2 part deal...LOL So, I'm working on this Brunswick and who ever worked on it last did such a bad job of extending the rails with "Facings" and not wood, and cut the angles so bad I just couldn't deal with it. Because Scott and his wife Nancy put me up in their house with a bed and a shower, and feed me, without asking Scott, I tore apart the rails, fixed all the pocket casting inserts that were missing and tore out. Removed the cushions and facings from the rails, extended the rails with wood correctly, and put everything back together again. The table will be playable today by the time Scott gets home from work about 6pm. All the extra work I did, I did because I felt bad for Chris who bought the table and had the work done in the first place, but didn't get what he paid for, and for Scott who bought the table in that condition not really knowing how the table really was, so I'm not even charging Scott for all the extra work!!!

All I was suppose to do was deliver and setup the table:D but I just couldn't walk away from a table that I knew was NOT going to play right, so I HAD to fix it right:D :D I'll show 101 the before and after pictures, maybe he's the one that worked on it last, who knows;)

IMO, This mentality is one of the major problems with the industry, "The process is simple, a 12 year old could be tought to do it".

The difference between mediocrity & greatness is often small. Attitude towards learning can keep you in the mediocre group rather easily.

Glen's system is NOT drastically different from most technicians. It's several small differences and attention to detail that seperate the Glen's from the Mechanic101's. Ask Donnie and several others that have spent time with Glen.

I don't think Glen needs to prove himself to anyone! and mechanic101's post doesn't deserve the time Glen took to reply to it.

Where there is smoke there is uasualy fire.

Glenn must be doing something above and beyond or there would not be any talk about it.
In every trade a man can do there is someone at the top who has mastered the skills and done the deeds well enough to be called 'The Best of the Best'
Sounds like Glen is the man in the pool table world and I am sure he is proud of that which he has worked so hard over the years to achieve.

Take this to heart newcommer 'wantabees' ... if you want that kind of recognition then do it the same way he did it ... get out there and work hard treating people with respect.
Trying to ride the coat tails of another or talking down someone else to make yourself look better will only cause loss of respect.

I aint accusing ... just giving good advice ...

W  W What a tribute! His very first post on the forum was to try and slam a legend. Safe travels Glen. I don't even know you other than a phone conversation we had when I was trying to buy a table from Ray, but if you need a place to crash again let me know. Mike
