Who is the hottest road player gambler out there?

I heard of this kid calls himself Jerod or Gerod from Texas lives in Canada now he said. Said he beat Charlie Bryant out of a bunch of money. Offered many people weight at the VNEA tournament Watched him offer Shane Vanboeing the 7 ball on big table or bar table. Shane said no way.......Is he for real does anyone know him??

Yup, as cool as it is to hear these stories about road players its not worth killing all thier action.

People wonder why "the road" ain't what it used to be and why it's so hard to do well. If you got a guy that lives 6 states away that knows he has to get the 7 from you, how are you supposed to win?

I think we should kill this thread. Y'all fucked someone up a while back and I'd rather not see that happen again, with him or anyone else.

Jus playing devil's advocate...what is the incentive for us to not share road player info? Are we protecting the integrity of the road-runner?

I, for one, would like to know about this player. If he's an honest player, he will not be disguising his skill level anyway (offering weight to the SDKid is not the best way to lemon). If he's a hustler, then go ahead and post a picture, list his address, give us his license plate number. I have zero interest in protecting con men (I'm NOT saying he is one - just considering the general possibility). I know OHB's view is that the pigeon's deserve it because they are greedy (I don't disagree with that, and I have little sympathy for the pigeons), but that doesn't mean that the plucking of the pigeons through unethical means is in any way admirable.

remember, it takes two for the hustle to work. the mark most of the time, thinks he's got the nuts and is going to rob the hustler..........so who's actually in the wrong here? the hustler for taking advantage of this, or the mark who THINKS he's getting away with murder?

Agreeing with Willie, I don't know why people are so quick to jump on the "don't rat him out" bandwagon.

If the guy is that good, he should have no problem matching up with whomever. After all, the entire billiard community is not viewing this thread.

you'd be surprised how may people come on here looking to see who's who, and who's where.

go back and take a look at the previous threads about road players, they have some of the highest page views.

One of the best West Coast players calls this a "knock" site- meaning a place where people kill the action for road players.

I think I have already heard of this guy though from people who say he told them he never loses for $$. Not the best way to stay in the shadows...

Still, everytime someone I know goes to a major tourney where people are matching up, they come back with stories of guys offering weight to champions and everyone hears about it. They can't hide forever but we might as well let them make some money first.

About ten years ago, I told my friend Chris MacDonald that Buddy Hall and Nick Varner gave him a compliment (excellent player, former pro or something similiar- I can't remember) on an accustat tape (Strickland/Davenport at the Sands). He said "I know, I was in Michigan and went into a pool hall looking for action. The first guy I ask to play says he watched that tape and needs major weight."

Chris is from CA so thats some long distance action killin'.

Not that anyone cares, BUT - I have 2 different views on this..............

I agree, but it's still not everyone.

On one hand - KNOCKING & KNOCKERS ARE WRONG and usually just looking for the recognition they can't get with a stick in their hand.

On the other side - A road player/hustler has to adapt!

Many years ago, when I was hustling in Florida (for over 6 months) - I went into a poolroom as I usually did - As A Salesman.
I knew the guy I was after (I think his name was Tom Severs) was a good player - but - Would go off big for a good hustle. As I walked into the room dressed in a coat & tie - This fellow comes up to me and says "We know who you are, how you play & who you've beat. We had a call over two weeks ago about a Salesman in a new white Continental that was BBQing all, everywhere. I was lucky/smart enough to get his name & #.
I had to forget about this guy (Tom Severs) for the time being - BUT - Went straight back to St. Louis for a couple of months. While home, I traded in the Continental for a new '77 Silver Seville - went back to Florida (called the Knocker & "put him in" - went to a bar about 4 miles from the poolroom where this Tom guy played and started to gamble with the locals. Sure enough - about 3 days later, here comes Tom. I forget the exact amount of the score but it was a nice one.
MY POINT BEING - A GOOD PLAYER/HUSTLER HAS TO BE ABLE TO ADAPT TO THE CURRENT CONDITIONS.
I'm sorry to admit this - BUT - today’s conditions include the Cell Phones, text messages, Internet access & info.
AND THAT IS WHY I DON'T REGRET THAT I GAVE UP HUSTLING POOL AND STARTED A BIZ - With gas, motel, food prices the way they are - I don't see HOW a player can survive.

SO I MOSTLY AGREE WITH "VAP" - BUT - JUST LIKE ANY BUSINESS TODAY, IF YOU CAN'T ADAPT TO CHANGE, YOU CAN'T SURVIVE!

ALSO (DR. WILLIE), REMEMBER - IF IT WEREN’T FOR THE HUSTLERS OF THE PAST & PRESENT, HOW & WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO BECOME GOOD AT POOL - THEY SURE COULDN'T PROVIDE FOR THEMSELVES OR ANYONE ELSE FROM TOURNAMENT WINNINGS. I understand your LOVE for the game – BUT – all can’t be a Medical Doctor..
Loving something is very different from needing something.
