I loved a Road story on here,I had seen it before and have never been sure if it was a true story or a novel or fictional representation
I thought I would let you guys in on a real hustle
Please allow me to set the stage,I went to another city to a tournament filled with great players, mainly just to see what was happenig
I also thought it would be nice to pick up some spending cash, just to see if I still had it in me
The problem stated: I played way under everybody there and no one will give a spot
to someone they don't know
In other words if I walked in and asked someone to spot me 8 to 4,everyone would think I was crazy and avoid me.
THEREFORE
I needed to establish two main images in the eyes of the Mark (entire pool room)
Step one;LAYING DOWN THE SPREAD
:
I needed to buy an image
The commercial necessity to win the dough forged me to impress everyone in the place with two major ideas. 2 not 1 TWO
First ,I had to demonstrate to the group in an interesting, believable and practical manner that I was not very good at pool i
SECOND
And this is really the most important part of the entire presentation, the most important object of all
I had to impress the minds of all the gamblers that (1) I had money, (2) I was not afraid to gamble and (3)would not quit once I started losing
In other words it was necessary to make everyone see that I was the fool who was soon to be parted with his money
This last part is so important that you see every time some good player plays me he will say to defend his action"I was taking a shot at the money"
Your average road player is under a commercial necessity to play soon or his overhead(referred to as the nut) doesn't consume their bankroll
after seeing nothing but broke pool players for a while here comes Dean with a huge bankroll which he allows them to observe in a very casual manner
( the FLASH,showing the money to the mark) I could write a book about the care and display of the bank roll, too aggressive and the mark smells a rat
too discretely and he misses the magnitude of the cash, you don't just pull out a wad and say "Come and get it"
So here I am in a city unknown to all.
First of all I took one of the biggest suckers in Texas as a road partner and pretended to be his stake horse
As people gather to match up with John I would say, lets play,no matter what game John was offered I would say to John,"Lets take a $2000 shot,we can always adjust, right?"
The suckers, all great players couldn't believe their eyes, here I was offering to bet $2000 every time they offered John a game that he had no chance to win, none
But John was already expressly forbidden by me from ever playing any game whatsoever,so he had to tell me no.
"Dean, stay out of this, these are bad games, leave the matching up to me,you just don't have the experience to match up with professionals"
I appeared impatient to bet on anything.
The players thought to themselves"we have to get John out of the way so this idiot Dean will lose a bundle"
The bait is swallowed but the hook is not yet set
If this story appeals to you guys let me hear from you
