I think many people are in the Hall of Fame for many sports that weren't really the greatest at their perspective sports. People who promote the sport, people who bring others into the sport, people who mentor and coach others. Many ways to end up in a sports hall of fame.
I understand your point. Some examples of borderline Hall of Famers in my opinion would be among the women. Why Jeanette Lee has made it but Vivian Villarreal has not makes no sense when you compare their career tournament records. This is a forum where people discuss topics right? If guys got in for makin' chalk and pool balls then you can get in for being hot. JL was/is a big pool booster and a lot of her fame/notoriety didn't come from on-table exploits. I agree VV should get there.I understand your point. Some examples of borderline Hall of Famers in my opinion would be among the women. Jeanette won virtually nothing after Allison Fisher and Karen Korr appeared on the scene, whereas Vivian remained a major WPBA tournament threat to both of them for another 10-15 years. I would bet the heads up WPBA match records between Vivian and Jeanette fall strongly in Vivian’s favor. Hopefully, Vivian will soon get her overdue HOF recognition.
This is very uninformed.Jeanette has won virtually nothing in the past 25 years since Allison Fisher and Karen Corr appeared on the scene, whereas Vivian remained a major WPBA tournament threat to both of them for another 10-15 years. One could argue the Same for Fats. Rudolph Wonderone Jr , is in the Hall of Fame just for being a Colorful figure. Not by his playing. Fats never Won any major tournaments or was on any special league. He was a hard core bank player but does that warrant enough to be in the Hall. Willie Mosconi cleaned his Clock in the ABC Wide world of Sports pool shoot out. Fats clearly was not in Willie’s league and yet he is in the Hall. Eddie Taylor has been considered one of the Greatest to ever hold a cue and did things to this day has not been done yet he was inducted way after a lot of players that should have came after him. Steve mizerak even said that Eddie was light years ahead of him and should have been inducted way before he should have. So Rodney is there , He does have the talent to warrant it.I was searching current and all time BCA hall of fame members, and I happen to see Rodney Morris. I don’t mean To take anything away from him, but how does he qualify when his only major accomplishment is one US- open win?
He’s in because enough voting members deemed him and his accomplishments worthy. How would you like to proceed? Your goal can’t be to get him off the list, and you obviously won’t be convinced he deserves to be in.This is a forum where people discuss topics right? Wanderone is in the Meritorious Service category, so not the same reasoning. Fats absolutely deserves to be in.One could argue the Same for Fats. Stu, I guess I could be wrong with my assumptions. I recall asking AF about 15 years ago as to who she considered her toughest opponent on tour. Without hesitation she said Vivian - not Karen, Gerda or Jeanette, which I found a little surprising. This is very uninformed.
Allison joined the WPBA in 1995, and about 80% of Jeanette Lee's titles in WPA ranking events (probably about 20 of them) occurred after Allison had already joined the WPBA tour. I'll also add that Jeanette was consistently ranked in the top five, and usually in the top three, for over a decade on the WPBA, while in the same period, Vivian was typically in the 6-10 ranking position, so Jeanette's consistent excellence is undeniable. Further, Jeanette won the Challenge of Champions and was the gold medalist at the World Games.
I would agree that Vivian, whose WPBA rankings event title count is about half of Jeanette's with most of those titles won before Allison joined the tour, belongs in the HOF, but her career pales in comparison to Jeanette's, which it seems you have largely forgotten.
You could be wrong? No, you ARE wrong with your assumptions. I attended over 50 WPBA events live from 1995-2010, which was the prime of the careers of all of Fisher, Corr, Lee and Villareal. I've known all four of them for over twenty years.Stu, I guess I could be wrong with my assumptions. I recall asking AF about 15 years ago as to who she considered her toughest opponent on tour. Stu, just give me a stat on the total WPBA tour wins comparison between those two? I can’t seem to find it anywhere and it’s not on the WPBA website, but I’d be curious. There must be a listing somewhere of career WPBA tour wins leaders. If you find it, please let me know where. Throughout the 1980s and most of the 1990s, there were likely 20+ WPBA tour stops per year. It’s very sad that they virtually all disappeared so quickly. You could be wrong? You're right that Vivian always played Allison tough. Vivian's lightning quick, free wheeling style, was, at times, intimidating (Vivian was, perhaps, a poor man's Ga Young Kim) but her track record in competition pales by comparison to the others, and Jeanette had a great track record in matches against Vivian. It's time to drop the fiction and look at the competitive resumes. You can take any angle you like, but there is no case for putting Vivian's career on a par with that of Jeanette. Greatness is measured in titles. Always has been and always will be.

I'll look it up, but it's a bit tricky, as some of the WPBA ranking events didn't beat the letters WPBA in the event title. Obvious examples would includes the BCA Open, the Ultimate 9-ball, and the Tournament of Champions.Stu, just give me a stat on the total WPBA tour wins comparison between those two? OK, I see it this way. Restricting consideration to events carrying full WPBA rankings events, Jeanette has 18 victories in WPBA full rankings events and Vivian has 11. This means omitting state championships and regional tour events. Each has other significant achievements, outside of WPBA tour play. Stu, thanks for checking on that. I obviously underestimated JL’s tour wins vs VV’s and I stand corrected. I remember seeing you at numerous major WPBA events I attended back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and I wish I’d gotten to know you then.OK, I see it this way. I guess we all have our opinion on what really makes someone hall of fame worthy.I’m sure the original poster would agree with you.![]()
Perhaps we'll still get the chance. That would be nice.Stu, thanks for checking on that. I obviously underestimated JL’s tour wins vs VV’s and I stand corrected.
