Rodney "Rocket" Morris

Rude Dog

<---Dumb and Dumber
Does anyone know where Rodney is hanging out these day? Is he playing on the tour? Is there even a tour to play on? That guy is a helluva player and really has a chance to be the best. Does anyone agree with me on this?

Rodney is the man!

I agree totally with you. Rodney has the ability to be the Efren Reyes of the new generation. Rodney makes the game entertaining, always playing to the crowd. Away from the table, you could not ask for a better person. He went thru alot of trouble to get me UFC tickets in Vegas a few weeks ago and never thought twice about letting me hit balls with his prized Szamboti. He goes that extra mile for his friends and for his fans.
Rodney is in Houston, Texas and he has been living in Charolette, NC. He had a real good season in 2003. Hopefully, 2004 will be even better for Rodney.

Rodney is a nice guy and He is known to be one hell of a guy to beat gambling......Silky smooth stroke. I heard he moved to Florida.

Rude Dog,
A professional friend of mine thinks Rodney is one of the 3 best nine ball players alive right now (forget about tournaments, he's talking about long gambling sets where the monster break becomes a much bigger advantage).

Rodney has one of the nicest strokes I've ever seen. He must be one of the most naturally gifted players to ever play; he snapped off a pro tournement right after getting out of jail. When I first saw him play, I watched him hit about two balls before realizing that I will never have that stroke or natural ability to run out. He is also one of the most entertaining players; his reactions at the Mosconi Cup were hilarious. I think Pagulayan and Morris are the funnest young players to watch right now because of their talent and enthusiasm.

Does anyone know if he enters any one pocket or bank events, or is he basically a nine ball player like Earl?

I agree with you Willie, he is a very good player and does play for money well. I'd like to see him play a long session of 9-ball with anyone just to see the level of play he's capable of.

Rodney Morris is a great player, no doubt. Seems like a nice guy too... But as far as being in the top 3 (gambling-wise), I don't know about that one. There are a number of guys who would give Rodney a long night. Efren, Archer, Busta, Earl (if he decided to gamble again), and a host of other Phillipino players as well. Aging Buddy Hall might still get there, too. Not to knock Rodney but if the information is correct, Rodney lost to Busta up in Reno, getting the 8. Top 3 might be a stretch...

With Aloha

Coming from Hawaii I understand a lot of Rodney's thinking and expressions. I was fortunate to play him a little one pocket in a tournament. He told me to take it easy on him as he was not familiar with the game and then proceeded to run balls as if it was raining cats and dogs. I havent seen so many 8 and outs.

He is a wonderful lovely "braddah" but he can have a temper too. Its this temperament that can undo him. Because he is such a perfect player when he gets out of line he gets real frustrated or when he doesnt feel 100% he sometimes just gives up. If he can keep this in check then he can be unbeatable. When Efren or Archer have a bad day full of bad rolls they seem to focus and try to get better. Only the best should happen to this young man. He has made it back from hell and stupid mistakes. Perhaps this move to NC will make it happen.

Yes, he does have a temper on him and that's just because he does play so good, he doen't expect to get out of line. And yes, he was in hell for a short while, I was there too in his same case. We even traveled on Con-Air together. LOL. And it's just like the movie too. I don't know if my game will ever be the same again after that and I gotta give it to him for picking up where he left off.

Braddah I just hope you stay the straight line. My close friend from high school died in OP-Oahu Prison. He just went up the wrong road. I wish you and Rodney luck.

This might be a bit of an overstatement, but in the mid 90's prior to Rodney's imprisonment, I had a chance to watch him play quite a bit on Accu-Stats videos. I quickly saw how great of a player he was and went so far as to say, "He's Efren with a break." Sure enough, shortly after that, he beat Efren in the finals of the 1996 US Open.

However, I feel like he has lost a bit of his touch after doing the time. If he didn't go away, I think he would have dominated mens 9-ball for quite a few years, maybe up until today.

Thank you for the encouraging words Yobagua, I appreciate it. I'm doing everything in my power to stay clean and away from those who use. I made some costly mistakes and now it's time to move on. Peace.

I have that us-open final match on tape and being a Efren fan i was upsett that he lost!! I have to say though that was the first time that i saw rodney play and play he did! the guy was in full stroke that match!! Efren did have trouble with his break but morris was just in a dead stroke and played great! I think he did good in the mosconi cup also, a really good player

Life sucks when you screw up, but all you can do is climb out of the hole and move on. I think you stated the real key to your being successful, "stay ... away from those who use". Doesn't matter what the substance being abused tobacco, alcohol, drugs, or Bazooka bubble gum, if you're around it, it just makes it so much tougher. Move forward my man, ever forward.

You're right, life does suck when you screw up. And I all I can do is move forward from where I've been. It doesn't get any worse than that, believe me. Thanks for the kind words. Peace.
