Hi Rod , Sent what I could , hope Roger get back at it soon . Jim:thumbup:
We are trying to raise money for the roof, new drywall, plumbing repairs, carpet etc, etc. Roger isn't asking for this, it is more of an intervention. His house is too full of everything under the sun, and is another problem Roger has but we are trying to get it a healthy living environment.

I thought I read you mention mold. I had a neighbor had some flooding and it soaked up into the drywall. They brought in blowers and tried to dry the place out. Then the mold started. $30,000.00 later the house was fixed. Mold can be unbelievably serious and really hard to get rid of. In many cases the house in uninhabitable.
You don't need the few dollars you may collect here, you need local free labor and donated materials. What you are talking about can run into 10 of thousands of dollars. The roof has been leaking for a few years, so a lot of work is needed.

The roof must certainly be first then clean up an area he can live in and the rest can be done over time. That is going to be the best you can do. Regardless, as much as you can fix he will probably wreck. That clutter thing is an illness and a repeated behavior.
I rented to someone like that once. When they moved I had to get a dumpster put on the property to clean the place out. They lived their 2 years and I had no idea it was like that. They are pretty good and hiding their behavior. They go to work nicely dressed and who could imagine how they actually live.
I wish your friend well and hope with friends like you he can get his life back somewhat. Don't expect to see him change any time soon though and don't feel bad if you see a lot of your good work be all for nothing.
My good friend Ray Martin once had a mold problem in his house. It aint no cheap fix.![]()

You most likely would be better off to buy and set up a new mobile home on his property.
This option will probably cost less, and no health concerns going forward.
Not to mention how much easier in terms of time and labor this option would be.
Just a thought for your consideration.
I own an Construction and Insurance Restoration Business. Before you invest money on a roof, you need to get an expert to inspect just how bad the mold has impregnated the house. If the roof has been leaking for an extended period of time, the house is generally damp, the mold has likely grown unabated. The only real alternative, to cure the mold, is to essentially gut the house. From what you're describing, given all the things that need to be done, it may be cheaper to demo the house and start from scratch.
Mold as bad as it sounds can cause very severe illness. At this point, simply putting on a new roof and replacing some drywall likely won't resolve the problem. I'm sorry to have to deliver this bad news but you should no the facts before you throw good money away putting a roof on a house that has much more serious issues.
Is the fire insurance paid up?
