I like the old style cases allot but i have to say that Jim´s vintage style is a killer. Like to get some feedback on where my money should go, and witch case will get most positive feedback.
I have a 3x6 Vintage from J. Murnak and just love the style, cause it's different from everybody else. Great looking, it will last for ever, the craftmanship is top notch. My next choice would be a Whitten, also a great case.
Murnak is the man. He is one of us and makes his cues just for the player. Enough pockets for everything you need. The craftsmanship is second to none and he will customize it to your specs - even to the color of your choosing. He even dyes his own leather. His carving, if you like carving, is spectacular and the case will outlive its owner. He is truly the man. And a wonderful guy as well. You won't be sorry.
I met Mr Thomas at Valley Forge this year. A true gentleman and a craftsman. I really like his style of case. I own and have owned more than a few.
I have never dealt directly with Mr. Murnak but a friend just ordered a case and could not say enough good things about him. I have owned several of his cases and they are all top shelf.
Jack Justis is also a great guy to do business with.
I notice a trend when it comes to high end cases....they are all made by top shelf men.
You can not go wrong with any of these fine products. Just depends on which YOU prefer.
While I like Thomas cases, they cannot compete with the quality or functionality of Murnak cases. Pockets, straps and the ability to custom order various custom features. Like I had Jim put a pocket in the case for my extension (cue).
I have a Ron Thomas 2x4 and a Murnak 3x6 Vintage. I love them both, they're extremely well made and I like the styling very much. Both cases are very sturdy and offer great protection for your cues.
The Thomas is my daily case simply because it's a lot lighter and smaller compared to the Murnak - I gotta lug my case around in buses and trams so the weight and size is an issue. Whenever I need to carry a third cue I just take the Murnak.
If you don't mind the weight and need lots of storage space for all your pool stuff, go with a Murnak. If you want a light and sleek yet very sturdy case it's hard to beat a Thomas. Both are great cases and I think you'll be happy with either one you choose, it's really down to what you're personally looking for in a case.
