Ronnie not playing, who should be invited

It looks like Ronnie O'sullivan is not playing the King of the Hill 8-ball tournament. That means there is a spot open for a player in the selection of 150.

I think it should be a European, like Ronnie, and who better to pick then Alex Lely who is current European 8-ball champion (with a field that had all the top European players). Alex also won the European 9-ball championships and is a member of this years mosconi cup (see: www.mosconicup.com).

In 2003 he won the unofficial world 8-ball championships in Fujairah (the tournament that is now the WPA 8-ball world championship). He collected one kilogram of gold as a first prize.

HE SHOULD BE IN THE KING OF THE HILL KEVIN!!

What's the source of this information? I've seen a few posts along these lines, but nothing definitive.

Hell, I checked out a couple of UK sites after reading this, and one (not all that recent) had an interview with a teaser "Ronnie's thoughts on converting to Islam"!!!! My jaw dropped and I raced through the interview ... and of course it turned out that he was merely soul searching, etc. Hadn't actually thrown himself off that particular cliff. :p

No doubt. The only place I have read that Ronnie is not playing is on AZB from posters with no links to anything that would actually confirm it.

If you people found something claiming he is not in can you at least link it?

If it is true that he is not in then I wonder if he remains one of the 150 IPT members at all since I "think" that it is a requirement that all members go to Orlando whether they are playing in the King of the Hill or not. If this is true then they are not only looking for a replacement for the King of the Hill but also a new player for the tour.

While I did send in a application and would be buying a plane ticket to Orlando tomorrow if I was given the spot on the tour to watch the KotH, if Pagulayan sent an application, even past the deadline, for the good of the tour they should make a excepetion in his case and replace Ronnie O'Sullivan with him. Alex is GREAT for TV and would help the tour alot. Plus Ronnie is some big shoes to fill for this tour if they indeed have lost him from a interest standpoint and Alex is one of the few that could really fill that spot well.

Of course Deno would have to chat with Alex and make sure he was commited to the event and was going to pass on the events in the Phillipines that conflict before making the choice. If Alex passes on the tour still it is a shame and I guess I would begrudgingly step in... :p

Someone ...

needs to ask Deno about whether Ronnie will be playing
or not. I would say that Ronnie would notify them ahead
of time if he wasn't so they could have time to get a
replacement. If he isn't, I would say Alex would be my
1st choice, and Lely is my 2nd choice.

I see in the other Ronnie thread they say he's playing snookah instead. Not exactly for a mammoth payday there, either ... guess he's not as burned out on snooker as he might have let on. Or not so excited or confident about trying something new. Didn't think he was missing many meals and would make the decision strictly on economic factors. Hell, there'll always be another snookah payday a few months down the road, right?

Maybe they could invite one of those players that didn't get in the 150 (but certainly should have if it were soley based on skill). How about Danny Harriman? Oliver Ortmann? Alex P.?

Oh well - just a suggestion. :D

Hi Grady,
I was surprised by the info in your post because Ronie told me that he was not included. After reading your post,I went to IPT and looked at the list.I did not find the name of Ronie Wiseman.

http://www.globalsnookercentre.co.uk/files/Results/res05_6/05-6PREM-League-results.htm

This link will show you that he's in the premier league and I doubt he's gonna jump ship come finals.

Moneywise he will have better odds for a better payday here than King of the hill, and he's probably under contract to be there aswell I would think. He has allready gotten $40.000 during round robin of this league. For showing up and losing in the semifinal he will get another $22.000. Winning the two matches will give him $89.000.

Looking forward to see what this genius can do at 8-ball. Looks like he's gonna play in the WPA world 8-ball 8-14.november: http://www.acesme.com/eng/Content/player/default.asp

IPT Inaugural Event

I think Dave Matlock should be invited. He definitely has the credentials and is one of the "old time pros." I was surprised he didn't make the list initially.

David is a logical choice because of his popularity, reputation, talent, history, longevity. Class Act & a pool players choice.

I'm sorry. I'm wrong. It was his friend Gerry Watson who is one of the 150.

If Ronnie will not be there then it will be whoever is #151 on KT's list. The person who just missed out making the first cut. And I am sure he will be a very happy person.

Re To Vagabond

One of my friends new someone who " " and asked them to put in a good word for him and as a result he is now on the list of the 150 players, I realize that there are no rules when it comes to how players get invited and it's not my place to belittle other players ability. I'm a stranger in the strange land of pool politics but on my application I put down how I was one of the American's picked to play in the prestigeous Masconi Cup, if this does not give me some qualifications then I do not know what would. I must admit that it is kind of difficult for me to get comfortable but when I do I am no stranger at all, the tournament that I have yet to be paid for was not the US Open but the UPA Mid Atlantic Players Championship. Maybe that does have somethng to do with how I did not get invited, I do not regret a word I said about the whole deal and feel that anyone who does not speak up for themselves when they have been treated poorly is a person who likes being a statistic.
Sincerely, Danny Harriman

Danny ... Might depend on whether you can beat Matlock or not ... lol
I think either one of you would be qualified to play, and would like seeing
both of you there, to be honest. I sure hope that you are not 'Black-balled'
because of the incident, as it is. You are very talented, and I would love to
see you get a piece of the pie in the IPT.
