Everyone likes to watch trick shots and stroke shots and from a snooker perspective all the snooker stroke and snooker shots are really lame.

To what extent to you think someone like Ronnie could shoot some shots and draw 3 or 4 rails, back cuts, english shots, etc.

On the most recent 147 he shoots one shot to get on the last 2 reds which is a bit of a stroke shot, but I'd like to see him let loose and make the tough shots.
 
Snooker players can shoot all those shots effortlessly. Spend some time checking them out on YouTube and you will see it. Especially when it comes to the last 6 balls which have to be shot in rotation.

Ronnie especially can stroke the ball. Jimmy White has a few videos where he is super stroking the shot as well.

Also, on a snooker table they are all tough shots. Several years ago at the BCAPL in Vegas someone had several snooker tables set up and they did a contest where the balls were placed in a line and the goal was to see how many balls you could make doing a simple line up drill. I don't think that ANYONE got very far.

Just like the pros here, the pros there just make it LOOK easy.

Get on a 12 footer with the baize and tight pockets and hit some balls. Once you struggle to make a ball you will have a whole new respect for Ronnie Osullivan.

Neil Robertson, the current World Champion, is known for his powerful stroke as well. The most impressive stroke shots are the very long draw (screw) shots and the shots from black to move the clusters of reds in which the cue ball keeps fighting to get itself clear of the shards.

There are some good Youtube videos of such shots.

In the mid-eighties, at the top of his game, Jim "King James" Rempe was invited to England to play Pro Snooker. He worked hard at it, too. With all that money available then, he decided that path wasn't for him. That's got to say something about whether or not "those guys like O'Sullivan got chops!" Steve Davis would be a good person to ask about that, too.
 
a few reMarks

As said earlier, snooker pros can shoot those shots without effort. Ronnie and Jimmy White have powerful strokes, just look at the videos posted in this thread. Neil Robertson also deserves to be mentioned here.

A couple of players I feel are not very often mentioned but have monster strokes are Mark Williams and Mark Allen. Both players care very little about making a big break and once they get over the line, they tend to play shots you cannot believe. I'm sorry I can't provide links to videos, can't seem to find any just now.

One of the most famous breaks of all time, with quite a bit of shotmaking to it. Not the most beautiful stroke but sure seems to do the trick.

I understand how one can not have correct perspective of power and control of top snooker player's strokes...I guess they've never tried to play the game itself or they've never seen the players play in person.

The first time you step on a proper 12 footer with real cloth just try a long stop shot which looks simple enough. I think you'll find even with that shot you need to strike at the bottom of the cueball to even make the cueball stop. Any kind of unwanted side spin, even the slightest amount and you have no chance of making a ball. This is awfully hard to do with any consistency. Long draw from that distance? For most mortals...forget about it!

Neil's first shot kind of reminds me of Corey's famous draw shot... Hat's of to these players. Absolutely increadible as these are all from the world championships at the Crucible in Sheffield. There's a lot pressure for most of these, they're not just whacking them in for laughs.

Fantastic Video!!! Thank you for posting it. When someone has never played snooker on a real 6x12 they don't have any clue how daunting it is. Not only are the pockets really tight but the corners are rounded and they spit balls out. It's rare to see shots that bobble and still go in.
