Quote :

The world number six, who beat Barry Hawkins 10-1 in Sunday's final, said: "I've taken up smoking again, just because of this tournament.

Smoking.....

Smoking is to me to take 8 months off the Snooker Circuit , play in The Masters get to the Final , lose the 1st frame and then reel off the next 10 frames to seal the win .

Now that's Smoking !

I almost quit Masters due to anxiety, but ongoing back pain could end my career :

I plan to play faster, more attacking snooker that could revolutionise sport like T20 cricket :

the 26-year-old, who will play a series of six showdown matches this summer against O’Sullivan

the best of 11 frames and at venues in England, Ireland and Northern Ireland, is lined up to have a shot-clock of 30 seconds per shot

“I will go for any time on the shot-clock, let’s see what Ronnie agrees to and can cope with. Hopefully he’d go for 15 seconds, 10 seconds even.”

So these guys should be one - two in the Shoot Out. :D

All of a sudden there's a lot of people with comments to make on this subject in The Daily Mail (266 comments as I type ) :grin-square::wink:. Well who's to say he would've got a 147 if he played for it anyway ? It put Snooker back in the news and he does have a point about the prize money for a 147 break being cheap . If the 146 break turns out to be the highest of the tournament Ronnie will probably give the money to a charity .

BetVictor Bookmakers were quick to jump on the publicity bandwagon and payed out on the 147 :

PUNTERS PAID OUT
Bookmakers BetVictor are paying customers who backed a maximum break to be compiled during the Welsh Open. The odds were 11/10.

The firm will also pay out on those who backed a 147 in O'Sullivan's match with Pinches. That bet was available at 66/1.

On the next to last red it looks like it would have been tough to get on the black and he went for the pink instead. (It's a little hard to tell the angle from the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YGFkzJ7Ooo -- the pink is at about 6:10.)

I think that without the questioning of the ref about the prize it would have been a new speed record. The ref had a hard time keeping up.

Talksports Radio interview :

‘There’s a little devil inside of me sometimes’ - Ronnie O’Sullivan explains why he turned down 147 bonus
By Joe Moore (@JoeyMoore) | Tuesday, February 16, 2016

Ronnie O’Sullivan has explained why he turned down the chance for a 147 break at the Welsh Open, telling talkSPORT: 'There’s just a little devil inside of me sometimes'.

The snooker maestro has the most maximum breaks in the sport’s history with 13, but decided not to go for number 14 on Monday as he felt the £10,000 prize money was ‘too cheap’.

He potted 14 reds and 13 blacks before deciding to go for an easier pink – prompting audible groans from the crowd – as he made 146 to beat Barry Pinches 4-1 in the first round in Cardiff.

World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn slammed O’Sullivan’s antics as ‘unacceptable and disrespectful to the paying public’, while fans were also critical of the much-loved star.

And, speaking to talkSPORT on Tuesday, the five-time world snooker champion admitted he probably should have gone for the prize to ‘keep everyone happy’.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, ‘Rocket Ronnie’ said: “I just got a bit excited I suppose. I can’t help it, there’s just a little devil inside of me sometimes.

“A lot of people complained about it, but a lot of others saw the funny side of it and saw that it was just a bit of fun.

“I’m just enjoying myself out there, and sometimes when you’re out there playing it’s all happening so quickly that you just don’t realise what you’re doing, really.

“Sitting here this morning, I probably wish I got the 147 and kept everyone happy and not had all this. But at the time I was just having a bit of fun with myself out there. It was like a mini challenge whether I could do it or not.

“On the other side, it’s got something talking about snooker, which is great. It’s a great sport, I love the sport and I’ve nothing negative to say about it, really.

“To make a 146 was still good! Getting slaughtered for having a 146 is a little bit harsh. Maybe I should start just making 20 and 30’s and playing loads of scrappy horrible play. I don’t think people would like that either!

“You can’t win them all. You can’t please everyone. You just have to go out there and do your stuff and hope that people enjoy it for what it is.

“I’m 40 now and I’m just trying to enjoy every match, every tournament.

“I’m just trying to entertain snooker fans who have followed me throughout my career. I really appreciate that and I just hope I can give something back to them and be remembered as someone who entertained snooker fans all around the world.”

Barry " It's all about putting bums on seats " Hearn must've had a re-think when he seen all the free publicity Ronnie O'Sullivan created an had a change of mind of sorts .

Who's to say Ronnie would have got the 147 if he played for the black ? It could've played out as a bad positional shot , snookered , cueball goes in off or off the table , a kick on the cueball , mis cue , or any other foul , jawed a potted ball attempt . 146 it is ! :):D:thumbup:

Ronnie O’Sullivan says ‘yes’ to Paddy Power 147 offer and plans to give £11k to chari

not to be out done or out witted by BetVictor's 147 payout's Paddy Power also jumped on the bandwagon with this offer to Ronnie O'Sullivan .

Paddy Power Bookmakers also payed out for a 147 break in the tournament and a 147 break in the O'Sullivan V Pinches match .

I wonder how many punters actually placed a bet on a 147 to happen !:thumbup:

CRITICISED O'SULLIVAN SHOWS OFF HIS PUBLICITY POWER

The power of the O’Sullivan publicity machine remains undiminished, and is arguably even heightened in these days of rarer appearances.

polarising opinion gets you noticed. And O’Sullivan appears to have split people into those who are bewitched by his genius, and those who think he is a disrespectful and selfish brat

There is a bigger question for snooker to answer – how on earth do we get this publicity when he is gone. It isn’t going to be easy.

I do understand the various sides of this issue but really, it's up to Ronnie how to play and whether he wants to wait for a larger payday. I think it is great how he offered in the post match interview to hand over his cue, chalk and waistcoat for someone else to have a go...he certainly is entertaining, besides being a stronger, deeper and wider talent than any before him Watching that frame and then the next days' match really was mesmerizing. People (myself included) can think or say whatever we want but short of barring his entry (not happening) there is nothing anyone can do to contain his emotion at the table. And why should we? I would love to see a real time PET scan of his brain during play!

continues to amaze

He is the most talented pool player I have ever seen shoot. No one does it better. His stroke is on it's own level.
