rose colored rosewood

Supposed to be East Indian rosewood, but the only thing about it that remotely resembles it is the way it smelled during cutting. I have seen lots of wood, and know my woods pretty well, but have never seen this true rose red rosewood before or after this piece, and I have had it a while. If anybody has any leads on some more, i'd be sure interested.

That is a beautiful cue.
 
This happens alot, right now, I have a very nice piece of Brazilian rosewood that I've had for 5 years or so and started cutting and turning it, its awsome looking, but 1 piece doesn't look like any other piece of brazilian I've seen, and doesn't look like the rest of the wood I cut off of the same piece. This happens with cocobolo alot, and some others, you just never know what it's going to look like.

I must say the odd ball piece is very nice looking and has a rich dark redness, I've decided to make a wrapless out of it, instead of a pointed forearm.

Very nice Cue you have pictured Eric.

Cocobolo is always unpredictable. I learned early on to never trust it at face value. Gotta let it sit for a while for the color to stabilize. As for the braz. rose, that rich, deep red stuff is the very nice stuff!!! It and the stuff that resembles zircote is the only braz. rosewood I care much for.

Hi Eric,

I am from India and live in chiangmai,thailand now.

Laos is also not very far from here where i live.If u need any help to procure anything from India or thailand i can certainly help u arrange it.I am going to India in october.Though i dont have much knowledge about woods but can certainly get the work done if give me some info.

I dont care what you call it ... that there is one nice looking piece of wood.
Every once in a while a cue maker will make a cue that he really dont want to sell. That looks like one of those cues. NICE!

Great to see you back and on a side note, your old growth shaft plays even better after getting used
 
This is one reason I like to deal in botanical names over anything else...If I saw this cue and knew nothing about it I would say it was cocobolo....

Eric,

I'd agree that it has to do with the Auto white balance (or lack there of) on Jim's camera . Sorry Jim! Fortunately I know more about cameras than I do about cues.

I say this only because Jim has been supplying me with tons of pictures along the way as he's been building my cue. Having lots of pictures in different stages (and pictures shot in different conditions) it's easy to see that the AWB is adding a reddish tint when there is inadequate lighting.

Jim, please don't take offense to this. I'd say more than 50% of the cue pictures posted here are the true colors due to this problem.

If you look at the kamphi 4 pointer you posted, the joint looks "pink" when I'm sure it actually isn't.

I will also attest to Jim's vast wood knowledge. Crazy stuff!

No ofense at all. No offense meant toward Eric. Cue , no matter the wood, looks very nice. That's what counts here. My camera skills are what they are. Wish I was better, as do 90% of the forum I'm sure. We all get jealous of super nice pics!

Once I get my cue from you, I'll be busting out the SLR/Tripod/Lighting setup to try and get some nice pictures. :)

Thanks, Jim. No offense taken on my end by any means. Speak freely to me, I prefer it that way ;)

You might want to invest in a nice digital camera that has a macro setting. My camera is overkill for taking cue pictures & I still suck at taking them, actually don't give much effort :) But with it's macro setting I can get right up close to it & get crystal clear & true color pics.
 
That's the odd thing Eric, my camera is awesome. It has a 8 times zoom,auto focus,has the macro setting,optical zoom, has it all. It was up there in price , I think it's my lighting all the way. I have the mini tripod , but no lighting sourse different from the ouse or shop lights.
I want to make a booth with Muslin fabric and photo lighting.

Before you drop cash on a photo booth, try taking pics outside in natural sunlight.

I have similar equipment setup with same problem ... only way I can get half decent photo is from natural lighting or on a pool table at my pool hall.

I have 500W photo light but it doesn't do jack. With macro setup, I got a remote shutter and it seems to help a bit as well.
