Rosewood Burl cue

Hi everyone,

I started throwing around the idea of having a rosewood burl cue being made after I saw how much of a knock out the wood was. So I called up Paul Drexler of PFD Studios and we drew up a plan. He's a great guy to talk to about billiards or even if you're just looking to shoot the shit for a few minutes. Anyway, the process of making the cue was begun around September and the cue should be finished before the end of the week (end of February). Here are some pictures of the original wood. Progress pictures will follow. The final cue will have a black pigskin wrap.

Here are a couple of pictures of the forearm from last week. These pictures are after completion of the forearm before any finish was applied.

Here are the most recent pictures of the forearm and buttsleeve after the first application of clear coat. More clear coat will be applied in the coming days, the shafts will be finished, and the cue will be wrapped with black pigskin. After that, the cue will be ready to ship and in my hands, can't wait.

Here are some final pictures of the cue just before delivery:

If you don't mind telling us, who is making your cue?

Also some other details would be interesting, such as is it going to be wrapless, what will the butt be made of, will there be points, inlays, rings etc?

Thanks,

I actually have some pictures that I just need to put up on photobucket. Ill have them up shortly with much more information. Ill also be able to give a review once I get the cue.

I just got the pictures with the first coat of clear finish today. The figure on that cue is sick. I've seen how much justice the photos do to a cue though, and if I can see the wood so beautifully in the pictures, I can't imagine how it will look in person.

Thanks for all the kind words. I know Bill (cornerstone) had a limited number of pieces he posted that sold almost instantly. From my dealings with Paul, I believe he may have some more, hes got some fantastic stock of wood. I originally wanted to make the cue out of cocobolo with a highly figured piece he showed me, but then I saw this rosewood burl and the decision was made.

Unbelievable. What a beautiful cue. A fine design executed with some of mother natures exceptional handiwork.

Man I am a Wood Freak and that is one of the best looking burl's I have seen! I'm jealous! Thanks a lot now I have to buy another cue :banghead:

I hope to have more updated pictures of the cue by the end of the week. Anybody else have a cue with some rosewood burl that they would like to share? For those that bought Bill's rosewood burl, do you guys have any ideas of what to do with it?

I bought two pieces of Bill's rosewood burl but am still undecided what to do with it as to which cue maker to ask.

Any suggestions? I will probably start a thread on this very subject.

Thanks,

Ron

here's what i intend to do with mine but the piece i got from bill isnt big enough so i need another piece around 5"x1.5" squared to get this cue done. if possible i would like to replace the brown phenolic parts of the cue (buttcap and joint ring) with rosewood burl and maybe get the jps made with rosewood burl as well to match the cue better. but since i dont even have enough for the cue yet as it is i dunno if i can do that. so if anyone has another piece that's 5 inch by 1.5 inch squared or bigger/longer please let me know as i really do need it to get this cue made.

Sweet looking design dank, who would you like to make you that cue (provided you get enough wood)

ronshirley, how do you like wrapless cues? If i had another cue made with this wood, Id definitely consider using the entire piece as a handle, I feel like I wasted a good chunk by using it as the forearm =(

lambros is gonna make it. they hit so sweet, never even thought about getting someone else to do it. he makes those extra long points so i need an extra 5 inch piece for the buttsleeve.

but yea, someone sell me a piece lol.
