I don't see one group thats much tougher than the others. Of course there are some players I don't know how good their 14.1 game is. Johnnyt

group 7 looks very tough with three pure 14.1 players that are 300/400 ball runners, that 4th spot in that group will be very tough.

I agree that 7 looks like the toughest bracket but it isn't the toughest by much. Not to mention, there are a lot of international players in there that I don't know by name who, for all I know, might play extremely well. Are the brackets randomly drawn? The top players all seem so well spread out that it makes me think the tournament is seeded or that the brackets were hand-selected I.P.T. style.

Charlie Williams: If you happen to read this, you guys should get a match of Danny Barouty's taped this year. Every time I talk about straight pool with anyone from the East Coast, his name comes up. It would be nice for us West Coast 14.1 players (wannabe's?) to get a glimpse.

Group 2 is going to be fun, with two of our very own AZers clashing with the likes of Orcullo, Deuel, Hatch, and Van den Berg.

Both AZers better give damn-good detailed reports of their experiences! :)

Groups two and seven appeared to stand out a bit more than the others, but their all tough with each group having players in it that run hundreds in their sleep.

I would seriously hate to be in groups 3, 5 and most of all, 7.

Pound for pound, I think group 3 will be a very tough group to win in cos it seems more like anyone's game.

3 seems to be the weakest to me from top to bottom. JMO

I think Allen and Jasmine might have a walk over to the 32 round, but some of the players in that group are relatively unknown to me as 14 1 players.

I see a lot of USA players whose names I do not recognize. And several of the ones that I do know, I have never known to play Straight Pool.

stepanov from Russia can flat out play. This year he was runner up behind feijen at the European straight pool championships. Finishing ahead of Oliver, engert, and Thorsten. The Korean lady has a sister in group 1 and they are ranked 1 and 3 in their country. Jonathan smith os a local player that can compete playing straight pool with anyone in the world. He may be an underdog against the world class elite, but he doesn't have to lose to any body. And in the races to 100, they don't have to like it either. Me on the other hand.......

I don't know how Snodgrass plays, so he's my question mark. Based on what I know, I'd be shocked if the 4 players to escape from this group are not:

Allen Hopkins USA
Konstantin Stepanov RUS
Jasmin Ouschan AUT
Jonathan Smith USA

But I'm pulling for Jesse and Randy to take Jasmine's and Konstantin's spots ;)

Stepanov is currently ranked Number1 on the Euro Tour!!!

He also knocked Alex P out the world Championships a few years ago.

He plays ok....

:p

PS
Group 2 is the toughest by a country mile!!!

Thomas Engert didn't compete in this years European Championship since he didn't compete/finish high in the German Championship.

But, that doesn't mean that Stepanov isn't good ;) He is probably one of the best youngster's I have ever seen. (think he is 22?)

Stepanov has a really nice, soft stroke. I think only him, Efren and Jasmin has a stroke that can amaze me and keep me watching for hours.

Louis Pannullo will be taking Jimmy Fusco's spot
Cory Deuel is being replaced with an alternate that will be announced tomorrow
