Ok, What is the best router? Set-up, ease of use, Durability??? Less than a year ago (a little over 6 months actually) I got a PC and I've already had to send it in and have the bearings and bearing housings replaced. Now I'm shopping for a perminate replacement. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Pricey, but the Kress spindle from Techno-Isel is pretty good, and usually has excellent run out. I use to get free replacement on the PC, they would always burn out before the year was out, but they got smart and stopped doing it. Face it a laminate trimmer isn't designed to run all day long like we use them on cutting shafts or butts. I have Perskes and the first one just quit last month, not looking forward to having that thing fixed. But it had been running at least 7 years. Then again, you could buy a butt load of PC or Dewalt laminate trimmers for the cost.

You are right, quality, longevity and cheap can never be in the same sentence. I use a Precise brand precision variable speed grinder for inlays but they are pretty pricey. There is supposed to be no measurable run out at .000,01. That makes small cutters last much longer without breaking and more precision cuts. This dude is built very good for industrial use and runs up to 45,000 rpm but if it ever wears out I'm going to go with a precision spindle with a separate motor.

For general router use I just grab what ever happens to be laying closest at the moment. I buy used ones up at flea markets and yard sales, throw away everything but the motor and just put them back until needed. You can usually get them for 10.00 or so.

Routers

Hi:

Make an investment and get a Unique Products Deluxe router with the mount. About $1250 but worth the money in the long run.
Then buy a digital readout from Grizzley. I have two Unique Deluxe routers and they run and run and run, etc.

Denali Pool Cues

high speed spindle

I use a high freq. precision spindle. Kind of like a Curtis Mathis tv. Expensive and darn well worth it. With a good blade If I had to go back to a router it would be a Kress or I might try the Unique.

I started with a dremmel flex shaft machine. Not one of my better ideas.

Bet you didn't know I was a Curtis Mathes dealer for many years. My dad became a dealer in 1963 and I grew up in that business. They did really make good TV's when they were made in Athens, Texas. Now K-Mart pays someone just to use the name and puts Curtis Mathes on cheap junk made who knows where and still says, "Best for Less". What a joke. At one time my dad, brothers and myself had about 10 Curtis Mathes stores across north Georgia. Luckily I only owned one, so my headache was a little easier to get rid of when Cues and Lathes became my focus.
