hmmm...I had an idea ONCE about backed cloth, my IDEA was to replace as much of it as I could and educate as many bar owners as I could to stay away from backed cloths. All Valley tables years ago came new with backed cloth, well....not anymore today:D and good luck finding a bar in Washington State with backed cloth on their tables;) so....one MIGHT say my IDEA...paid off:D....at about 1,000 bar tables a year:thumbup:

thats nice, not thinking about Valley Tables though as I stated earlier but you have said more then enough for me already in regards to what can be done and I'm all set now.

Ok RKC now you have me scared! I just recovered my table with Mercury Ultra with backing. I removed the backing to do the rails as was recommended. Should I be worried about it damaging my cushions!?
 
Played for years on backed cloth in my college game room and came to the stunning conclusion....IT SUCKS. Hard to clean, piles bad, no hope of a decent draw, and wore out faster than simonis 860. You can never get it stretched to play even decent. The gameroom operators were told it would last longer and despite the cries of the pool playing masses, kept using it...which ran all the players to the local halls instead of the right across the street and cheap as hell game room. We all loved the no smoking too but could not stand the way the tables played and they were gold crowns. You want less burn marks...clean your tables regular and use 860 HR. Dirty tables=burn city. slip on tips+no playing turds trying to imitate trickshot magic=holes in cloth. This is from a players standpoint. From someone who used to have a job maintaining those same tables...it sucks fuzzy ostrich blls:bash:

John you should ad wallpaper to accompany your painting service. you could hang some backed cloth on the walls.
 
Backed cloth has no advantage other than the bar who doesnt want to recover it very often. Or someone who is paying doesnt use it and doesnt charge people to like a break room at a factory or something like it. It sucks to reinstall and is like playing on a pillow. I don't know any one on this forum but it seems people like to post to just cause a reaction. Who really thinks backed cloth would be any good no matter what style is being backed simonis, mali, championship it doesnt matter it makes it play worse.

There are no answers John....that will ever satisfy your questions...because one answer leads to another question and so on....so, just use the cloth and answer your own questions...you know...OTLB R&D...right?;)

What question u looking to get answered? How long backed cloth has been around, or why its not used on the tournament play cloths....

I have replaced backed cloth with non backed cloth many times..huge dirrerence is play
-I wouldn't suggest that backed cloth on a tournament table or in a pool room..

wonder who was the first company that came out with it. How long has it been in use?

Didn't I state it clearly enough the first time?

Its nice that you guys think you know where I am going with my threads but trust me you don't. There are a few in here that do though and they never say anything because they just enjoy the show.

The other part of my question was to stimulate thought and as usual I have found no shortage of responses.

Glen> it is no surprise that I can generate thoughts and ideas based on input or responses that others submit. Always looking to try new ideas etc and this is my nature. I don't care if I fail as sometimes I don't strike out and hit a Grand Slam.

Dartman said I should try the backed cloth on my Valley for the humidity problem in Tampa, FL in screened patio. I bought some from him and my humidity problem and table that played way too fast is over. Thank you Dartman. Johnnyt

I don't know why anyone would want anything more from a cloth that is on a table outside with humidity swings from 100% down to 25%. I've only had it on for 6 days but I know it's the right cloth for high humidity. I'm no table mechanic but I've had Titan, Velocity, Tour, and now this on my table in an 18 month time and this backed cloth I got from Dartman is the nuts. The cloth changes very little from 55 to 75% and is very playable at 90+%. Thank you Dartman and thank you to all the other mechanics on here who have helped me over the last 2 years. Johnnyt
