Rubbing the cue against your chest while down aiming/stroking

I do it, too. I call it "indexing" the cue. Think about it.
it leaves a chalk stain on my shirt just below my right nipple (for lack of better description) so that is where mine rubs. There are certain shots, mostly stretch ones, where i cannot get the cue to rub

I try to make sure my cue is up against the side of my body when lining things up, I don't bend over enough for it to be touching my chest. That's been one of the things I've been trying to make sure of in my mental checklist to be in the right shooting position, for me.

Nothing wrong with sliding cue along chest as long as you’re properly aligned. Not sure if it’s been mentioned but don’t pull your cue into chest just modify your stance a little

I had a lesson with Robin Dreyer and we discovered I was doing this. It was putting unintentional English on the ball.

Snooker players create a channel for cueing that includes gliding the cue along their chest. This is an enormous aid to straight cueing if it's done right. With pool tables being shorter, I've only ever seen the shorter pool players using this technique effectively. Dennis Orcullo does this, and there aren't too many that cue straighter than him.

If you have to pull your cue to your chest, you're probably not doing it right and may want to abandon the quest. Or if you're taller, it may not be practical to continue on.

One way to tell if you're doing it right or not is by viewing where your shoulder is placed relative to the shot line. If the shoulder is over the line, your probably pulling the cue into your chest. Snooker players get plenty of clearance while using this technique but most of them really move their hip out of the way as part of their approach. I think I waited too long to adopt this personally and find the hip twist sort of thing they do uncomfortable.

basically, i get down on the shot (right foot on shot line), put the cue tip to the cueball, and then hold that position with the cue. While looking at the tip/cueball, i very slightly lean/twist into the cue until it is gently nestled to my chest. I stare at the tip/cueball while doing the lean to make sure the cue doesnt move and i am not pulling the cue to my chest. It takes some repeating and getting used to. My flaw for years and years was pulling the cue off line into my chest, rather than doing the slight stance adjustment. "take the body to the cue......not the cue to the body", as barry stark says. I had a lesson with allison a few weeks ago and she said what i do looks good to her.

i traveled 2.5 hours to this guy. He was definitely smart and knew his stuff, but honestly he was a bit of a dick and i wont be going back. The nearest pool hall to me is 1 hr away.....albany NY. It would be nice to find a really strong player there to work with.
Mike Zuglan is in your area….if he doesn’t want to teach, he might have a recommendatio.
