I knew I had these pictures somewhere. This was Johns first time at the Atlantic. We left the US Open to hit the VA. Beach "Blues On The Beach Festival" for a couple of hours. John played with a Joss N7 "Color of Money" cue. We had a few beers and listened to some music that day. We also found a pool hall and played cut throat with my wife. He had never seen the Atlantic ocean. Those of us here at Az who sent him to the Open gave him the best time he ever had in his short life. I have never told anybody this but we purchased him some decent clothes and shoes so he would look good in the tournament. When I say we I mean all of us who contributed to his trip. God Bless John Morton aka "Rude Dog".
He would tell you exactly what he thought. He pulled no punches and he kept his mouth shut and pulled his time. Rodney Morris can thank John for his success today. I believe his left leg may have had something to do with his early demise.

I was one of the contributors, made me feel good that we could send him over there. I knew of John from his days at Hard Times, and from when he came to my dad's room to match up with my dad. Rude Dog was always very upfront and open about mistakes he made in the past, and the things he was struggling with in his life. I was glad he had such a good time over there and I like to think that we were able to get him away from his problems for a little while. Thanks for posting those pics Purdman, they are really nice to see.

Thanks man, I really grew to love John. Kind hearted giant if you know what I mean. Gentle as a lamb. I talked with him many times. I haven't been an angle all my life either. Thanks for contributing to his ride.

thanks for the pics, i ran around Vegas with john in the earily 90's for a couple months, then we just stopped hanging out-I cant remember why we were great friends, i miss him.

his leg looks bad in the pics he may have had a pulmanory embolism(SP?) a blood clot in his lung, due to his leg. I heard he had a heart attack, when we ran around and HE was snapping off all the bar box tournments he didnt smoke, and didnt drink much, he was one hell of a bowler, honestly i think he bowled better than he played pool, I asked him and he said "Probably but its boaring".

John Morton showed up at Galaxy Billiards in San Antonio for a McDermott Tour stop in the early 90's.

He went for $40 in the calcutta as an unknown. He won the tournament undefeated with some pretty heavy names on the players' list.

Never have seen anyone with the control on a what I call a "stun trickle shot" like John. That's a shot where he would fire a ball in the hole and the cue ball would slow roll to the precise spot he wanted for position. It was impressive to see.

One of the good guys. He is missed.

Cut it out guys, you are making me tear up! First thing I am going to do after I watch the party my wife throws after I die is hit a few balls with John.

PS: I wouldn't miss the party for anything guys! I also plan on a green burial. They ain'y making no toxic pickel out of me. Mrs. P has $5,000 for the party and everybody who wishes to come is invited.
 
John was the top young prospect in L.A. when he was first coming up. He was rated over Tang back then. He had a couple of top five finishes in the big events at Hard Times where most of the top pros turned out. The RUDE DOG could play!
