Rug or no Rug?

Playing pool on a shiny floor is like playing golf in street shoes.

My table has been the basement of both my houses. So concrete floor. My first house I had a big rug underneath of it. The new house I did the interlocking gym flooring around the pool table.

Yes, this is exactly what I have. So much nicer on your knees.
It also does not get damaged if your table is in a basement. Flooding was a big concern as was the sound proofing, for him. If his flooring ever got wet he could just take in out let it dry and reinstall if it got wet.

I also did not extend the drywall to the floor. Instead I nailed a one by eight around the perimeter directly attached to the raw studs. That kept the bottom of the drywall 7 1/2 inches above the floor. A minor flood would not reach the drywall in case of flooding. Water damaged drywall is a pain in the ass and potential area for black mold to grow..

His location had a very high water table and his sump pump ran a lot so we took extra precautions. Had a battery powered back up sump pump as well.

All in all it was a great room to shoot l pool in. He is still a good friend to this day even though he has retired to Salt Lake City. His daughter lives in nearby Park City and she bought a table for him to play his grandsons on when he visits.

Does not matter....but as mentioned cannot go wrong with carpets. I have a commercial carpet on the floor.

Getting a new table built for my pool room. Diamond pro 8' replacing olhausen 8'. It is going on faux hardwood planks on a slab. Is there any benefit/ detriment to a rug underneath the table? How much bigger should rug be than table? Would like some thoughts.

I built an addition on my house designed for my Gold Crown, reinforced floor, 3 4 tube florescent lights, carpeted with a bar, of course. I liked the carpet, especially as one ages. I prefer wall to wall if that works but 5" all around is best. I moved the table to a non-carpeted house and it was fine. I do prefer the carpet with other noise cancelling features. Never had, or worried about, allergies and we did have and use a vacuum cleaner. So, it's a matter of preference and SET UP EXPERTISE that will make you happy. Good luck.

When we got a table in our house we put it in a room with a tile floor, and the dealer recommended we put a rug down. The rug only extends about 18" past the table edges, and that seems perfect to me.

My brother had a specially made carpet installed in his pool room. Also faux wood on slab. The carpet extends about 4 feet outside the table, but under the table itself there is no carpet. No settling, but great for foot comfort.

Do NOT put a rug down. You won’t be able to move it to clean it.

That’s just like installing carpet as flooring in a house. Terrible idea.

My table is on a Persian style rug over a hardwood floor. It’s very comfortable. The only problem is the floor has faded from sunlight in the places there is not a rug. Since I plan on living in house until I die, I’m not that worried about the resell value.

I have my GC on my second floor apartment. It's on top of about 1/8" thick vinyl flooring, that I *think* is on a thin concrete slab which is I guess on top of floor joists. I saw the installers put it in, there was nothing but mortar between the vinyl and the concrete. I play in my bare feet. I love it, no issues at all.
