Rug under pool table?

Hi all

I recently had the carpets replaced in my basement with laminate. I thought it may be nice to put an area rug under the table, but im not sure if its a good idea. I read that you would want at least 3 feet on all sides sticking out so you don't trip on the edges- but where would I get a rug that is 10.5 by 15? I looked online and haven't been able to find any that would work. Is it just a bad idea? Do any of you have a rug under your table?

Go to a carpet store. Pick out a carpet that you like and give them the size. They can have it bound on all 4 sides and you will have your area rug.

I've had a rug under mine the entire time I've had it. I did not use an area rug, though. I went to Home Depot or Lowe's and bought 12' wide in the length I wanted. Then I had the table installed with the rug down, but no padding. After the table was done, I lifted the edges of the rug and put the padding under it around the table but not under (didn't want table to settle unevenly on the padding and no need for it under there anyway). My table has always been in a garage, so I'm not concerned that much with aesthetics. I like having the extra cushion while practicing or playing. I walk around on concrete all day at work so it's a welcome relief to have the extra cushion at home. Another alternative for you might be runners (area rugs designed for use in a hallway). One long one on each side and then a couple of shorties for the ends. You can get double sided carpet tape to hold down the edges to minimize the trip hazard if you have something good to stick it to.

One of the main purposes of a rug is to hold the table from sliding.

Area Rug

I have one under my Diamond 9 foot Pro and have never had an issue with tripping over it. I do shoot deliberate and methodical most of the time, but I could see an issue if you ran around the table chasing the cue ball like some people tend to do.

Check this company out: http://www.flor.com/

Create your own with carpet squares. Any shape, size, color, pattern, etc... that you can imagine. Nothing but good things to say about this product.

Another reason to have a rug is to protect any ball that leaves the table along with less noise. Plus it's easier on the feet with long sessions.

Lots of bargain stores carry rugs, check out Building 19 and Home Goods. Can pick something up pretty cheap and they have some decent size stuff.

Great suggestion. This is probably in the long run going to be cheaper than an area rug and it will fit perfect.

Thanks all!

I bought carpet squares (3x3), so I have an area that is 15 x 18

Post

I know many of ppl who put down low priced carpet and cut around the footprint of the table.
