Rule question

Playing 14.1 on table with pockets that do not drop balls. Not sure what this is called.

Pocket fills up with balls. I make a ball. It hits balls in pocket and flies off table. I know that if the made ball comes back onto table it is NOT considered pocketed. What if the ball flies off the table? Is this a foul? It is the same as if the ball goes through the netting and falls to the floor?
Please supply the rule for this. I looked in International rules book. ???

I would imagine it is a foul for driving the ball from the table, on the basis that it is a player's responsibility to clear the pocket before shooting.

Just a guess on my behalf, I should add.

Here are the applied rulings for object balls that touch a pocketed ball from the
OFFICIAL RULES OF CUESPORTS INTERNATIONAL

1. Situation: (a) an object ball (b) the cue ball, comes to rest touching both the bed of the table and one or more previously pocketed balls in a full pocket.
Ruling: (a) The referee will judge whether, if the supporting ball(s) in the full pocket were removed, the ball would fall into the pocket or remain on the bed. The ball will then be pocketed or placed as judged and play will continue. (b) Scratch.

2. Situation: An object ball rebounds from a pocket because of a ball, piece of equipment, or other obstruction in the pocket, and (a) stops on the bed of the table; (b) lands on the floor.
Ruling: (a) the ball is not pocketed. Play continues based on the result of the shot. (b) foul, unless caused by equipment left by the opponent.

3. Situation: The cue ball rebounds from a pocket because of a ball, piece of equipment, or other obstruction in the pocket. and lands on the bed of the table.
Ruling: (a): scratch, unless caused by equipment left by the opponent.

4. Situation: A ball drops into a pocket and, without rebounding from the pocket, and then falls to the floor because of a flaw in the pocket or ball-return system.
Ruling: The ball is pocketed.

Discussion for Situations 2 and 3: While a referee, if available, may assist in clearing pockets, the player is ultimately responsible for ensuring that pockets are clear of their own equipment or pocketed balls.

From the World Standardized Rules, here is foul 6.5:

6.5 Ball Driven off the Table
It is a foul to drive an object ball off the table. Whether that ball is spotted depends on the rules of the game. (See 8.5 Driven off the Table.)

Yes, a ball driven off the table is a standard foul in 14.1, resulting in the loss of one point, the spotting of the ball driven off the table, and play passing to the opponent.

[Based on WPA, "world-standardized," rules.]

Oh, just in case you were still wondering, that type of table is said to have drop pockets, as opposed to a ball return.
