Rules Clarification re: Scratching

I PM'd this to WillieBetMore because I didn't want to look stupid, but he hasn't answered and I wanted to try to get in a set tonight. This is my question:

-------

In reading the rules, I'm clear on what happens if you scratch on the break. However, I'm not clear on what happens if you scratch on a shot during the rack and you make the ball you were shooting on.

Does the scratch end the rack?

If you do get to keep shooting, do you have the same choice of positions for the cue ball as on a scratch after the break?

Either way, does the ball you made count? (I'm assuming no on this one.)

--------

Can anybody give me a quick clarification on this?

Thanks...

I would score it like this. (I hope it's correct)

Say you scratch in the 13th ball (make it or not) the rack is over just like a missed shot, you get credit for 1-12 which would be 14 points (-1) for the scratch is 13 points recorded for the rack.

Good Luck

That's the way I played.

I scratched a few times and considered that to be the end of the rack. I did count the point for the missed ball yet deducted one for the scratch.

I agree with Breakup and Hal. When you scratch, rack is over. I have not ever counted any balls made on the scratch. I have not ever subtracted 1 point for a rack-ending scratch (just for a scratch on the break).

Unless Drivermaker's Ghost weighs in, I guess that is the way we should do it. It is not covered in the rules we have; so certainly no one can be criticized for previous variation (I don't think it makes that big of a difference anyway).

Ok, now I'm clear that the scratch ends the rack. However Hal said he did subtract 1 for the scratch, and while you say you agree with Hal, you say you haven't done that. So I'm still not sure which it is. I hope the ghost weighs in.

Like you said, I don't think it makes that big of a difference - except in my case, 1 point can be a large percentage of the score for the rack! :o  :D

BTW - I SUCK AT THIS!!!!!! LOL!
