Run This (19)

For me, on this one, I honestly think that with so many available shots in the center of the table, my first attempt at finding a good break ball would come with pocketing the 3 ball with a touch of inside english and the correct vertical hit on the CB to bump the five and go from there.

Someone with really good CB control would probably try to get on that 5, cut it in the corner, brush this near side of the 3 and push it up while the CB drifts over for the 2. If I tried that I'd probably hit the 3 full on pushing it up to the center of the table and leaving myself way down there with only a tough shot. Either that or I'd hit the far side of it and barely nudge it over into the center of the rack area totally screwing myself. hehe!!!

Like veilside81, I went with the 1-ball break shot. I went a different way though.

CueTable Help

3andstop, I don't know if it would be possible to catch the 5 off of the 3. I've tried those shots so often, and they always look gettable until I shoot. Now that Dr. Dave showed the 30 degree rule, it makes sense why I've missed them so often.

Mully, even though that side rail break is no fun, I like your pattern because there is no problem staying in line all the way through. You come into angles on all of your shots instead of across them. This is what I'm always looking at when I'm coming up with my own. I think problems occur on the table when we gamble and have to rely on perfect position. By going along shot angles, there's little gamble.

The 4 to the 2 in veilside's pattern is a possible exception because the 7 can be made first if you don't fall all the way onto the 2. But in this case it would be important to try to undershoot the 2 to have the 7 as an out.

Its hard to see exact situations on the table layouts for sure, but even if you had to follow the shot with a tad with outside english so that you could hit the 3 a little fuller and throw it to the pocket more, that picture looks like I could miss the 5 high if I wanted to.

Never the less, if it were doable, I think I'd take a tickle of it on the topside. My second choice would most likely be the 4 ball if I couldn't hit the 5. I don't like taking additional balls off the table (including the 4) in order to gain an angle on a 5 ball shot with intentions of bumping the 3 into play. Thats too low percentage for me anyway.

Maybe it is doable. Those are things I never practice, so I don't have adequately precise knowledge of where the cueball can go. It's good to know these things.
