Ok, those 2 balls locked up on the spot are pretty much a mystery as to *exactly* where they'll end up when you break them open so I prefer to leave something to play position on rather than hoping I get something out of one of them. With that said, I can do anything I want on Cuetable and it comes out perfect. I would prefer to come off the 8 or the 2 to break these balls open but with that 1 sitting there you're only option from that 8 ball is if you go in the pocket that the 5 is blocking and I don't want to whittle the balls down that much before breaking them open, again because I don't like playing "possible" position. So, anyway, I decided to go with a course I can sort of control by pocketing the 2 first and then getting below the one so I can stun the CB over to those 2 balls. That 4 has the potential to go all the way up table and sit right on the end rail but since I can do it perfectly here it's going to stop where I want it to. hehe!! So, I play the 7 in the side etc....etc... see diagram. Like I said, on Cuetable I can do anything perfect. In a real situation though I would look at that 4 7 after they broke up and go from there so I don't know exactly how I would finish this rack. One thing I'd like to point out though, for any up and coming players, is when you break off of that 8 ball you need to put a touch of inside spin on that so you're not coming straight off that end rail and hitting the pack. 9 out of 10 times you'll hit the back of the rack and stick there. You want to hit the rack at an angle so the cue ball glances off.

I like rolling in the 2 and getting parallel to the bottom rail with the 1 ball. Roll in the one and bump the 7 on its top side. It should come out for a nice break ball and the 4 could end up as a very nice key ball.

Shoot the 5 or 3 next depending ....

I like Marop's path, but I'm a little worried that if you don't get just right on the 1 you won't be able to hit the cluster, or you'll have to kind of stun into it, which can be touchy. I might go off the 8. I think it is more forgiving because the cue ball can be almost anywhere and you can change the angle off the foot rail a lot with english. If you know the angles off the rail, I think it is a reliable shot. Maybe this is one to practice both ways to see for sure.

I ran this pattern out on the real pool table and this is how it worked out. I hit the bottom side of the 7 flush off the 1 and the balls ended like this. If I didn't hit the 7 just right I don't know where everything would of ended up. Just got lucky.

I realize that these layouts with clusters are going to vary a lot, but I wanted to include them every so often and just see what happens.

Bill, I must be doing something right, because I ended up very similar to your run again. It's great that you can try it out on your table. And it's also nice to predict how clusters will open, and then see how they actually open to compare.
