Like many people, one of my goals is to run 100 balls in straight pool. In an effort to expedite this dream, I'm going to play straight pool every day until I reach this plateau. Hopefully, by Christmas I will reach the 100 ball mark. I've run in the 70's a few times and many times in the 50's and 60's, but my mind seems to get in the way when I approach 100. I challenge others who are in my position to make a valid attempt to run 100 balls over the next several months. Every time I play, I will set a small goal of running 50 balls. Eventually, I will put 2-50 ball runs together and Bam!! 100 Balls!! Good luck.

Roll-Off,
Definitely an admirable goal. Unfortunately I am in the position of playing on fairly tough equipment, and have only 1-2 hours a day to devote to this pursuit. I've come to the conclusion that for me the only way to get anywhere close to 100 I'm going to have to develop an EXTREMELY precise stroke and EXTREMELY good ball pocketing skills. Almost all of my practice time has been devoted to refining my stroke. League straight pool began last week so I'll get a chance to see how far I've progressed. For now its back to the woodshed. Please keep us informed on your quest.

Hi RollOff, I just posted something in the 1000 ball thread that Im going to try when I get chance. 25 consecutive racks, thats a total of 350 balls if you dont miss! If you miss just carry on, but complete the 25 racks, maybe take around two hours or more depending on speed. Anything under 10 misses would be pretty good, 5 superb and 3 world class IMO

That sounds like a really good idea. The great thing is you only have to focus on doing 25 at a time. And you're not distracted by the sum of the runs.

Oh how I'd love to practice every day! Just once a week is all I can do.

I've been monitoring my progress on my website for over a year now, although I've just returned from a six month Straight pool break. I'm trying to think less of 'the run' but instead learn as much about the game as possible (thanks Steve). I also have the luxury of being to watch some great players in action on a regular basis "live" so to speak.

TheOne's 350 drill sounds like a good idea. I'll use this at my next practice session. It'll give us all a good way to compare ourselves too. I seem to average around 110-115 at Equal Offense (where the max is 20 in each of ten innings), and average one 20 plus run every ten innings or so. So my average run per inning could be around 13 which means it should take about 25 misses to complete the drill. Hmmm.... that doesn't sound too good! However, SJM did mention that it is good to have a drill that is a fixed amount of time and obviously this drill fits into this category. Perhaps take BIH after each miss?

Although Tuesday is practice, the rest of week I'm gonna watch AccuStats videos when I can, and try and watch more top guys play. My short-term target is modest, and that is to run 50 by the end of the year. But since I started practicing four weeks ago, my 'high run' each session (about two hours) has been 39,34,40,40 so I'm confident I can do the 50 soon.

Another thread also mentioned throwing six balls out and running to a break ball. I certainly think that is worth a considerable percentage of practice time. I mean all of us looking to run 100 can run an open rack regulary. Learning all the break shots, and executing them properly is the glue that holds the run together.

Don't forget to log what STOPPED your run. If you start to see a pattern, you can fix it and go on to the next thing....Gerry

Hi Roll-off, I'm in the same position, except for the fact that I can't practise straight every day, but two or three times a week. Good luck to both of us!

Here is also a one, who has a dream of 100 in straight pool. I've played pool a year and half now. I just made my best run "66" on tuesday. Before that I had only under fifties.

I usually play straight pool once or twice a week and I've noticed it's almost always the first try, which gives the best run for that day.

I'll take your challenge and try to reach my century before Christmas too.

On Saturday I will participate my first straight pool tournament ever.

I am trying to reach the same goal but have much further to go. I had been running in the mid 30s and several weeks ago, I hit 46, so my goal is to consistently get in the 30s or 40s and to hit a 50.

Monday, I got a 20 in league, had a break shot, just missed it but opened the rack.

Tonight in another league, I got a 24 with only 4 balls left on the table and a break ball, but tried to put too much draw on a long rail shot and missed it.

Patterns usually left me with a break shot, but my execution needs a little work. muffed a lot of gimmes.

Let us know how you 100 ball guys do.
