Running a table? What's that?

I was looking at some threads and I see where some folks post about when they run a table. I was wondering what that meant exactly. Do you break a full rack the just start pocketing balls? Do you play it like a Straight Pool rack? Do you play it like an 8 Ball rack shoot one suit, then the other? Is it a 9 Ball rack? Do you shoot it from the break or do you play it like a game against the ghost and break then take ball in hand? So what is running a table to you?

Kinda' like NASCAR .... 9 feet turn left, 4 1/2 feet turn left, 9 feet turn left, 4 1/2 feet ... :)

Depends on the game. In 14.1, running the table would be 14 balls. 9 ball, running out whatever is on the table (a break and run is from the break, technically a run out can be just a few balls but most people don't consider a runout in 9 ball unless it's from the break or at least most of the rack, in a league if you get a batch for a run it has to be a minimum # of balls, say 5, in 8 ball a run-out is clearing your balls and sinking the 8, once again, may not be from the break but most balls in one turn.

In my league there are a few terms, a Break And Run - run (at least 5 balls) and a Table Run - run out your 1st turn at table, at least 5 balls. If you make an early combo, without running out 5 balls, you don't get credit for those.
